Session 11: Out of the Woods Report

General Summary

Recap:

  1. With all the members of the party in various places across town, Sam looks for her old resting place in the Gnarled Bark tree that sits at the top of Groven's hill.
  2. In the tree, there appears to be a snake that's taken refuge there, and it seems agitated at Sam's presence. Sam goes to rest somewhere else, but the snake eventually follows her, seeking to run her off. Sam discovers the snake is actually having some trouble seeing, and after convincing it to let her help it, the snake tells her that the tree wants to tell her something.
  3. Sam follows the snake's instructions, and is granted some kind of vision of another place where she might find some connection to her family.
  4. Eventually, the entirety of the party reconvenes, and after Erika purchases a carriage, as well as some horses, the party makes their departure from Groven.
  5. It's about two weeks before they arrive back at the Easterbrook Outpost, and discover that the ship Nutae had rented was gone. Nutae asks the local guard about what happened to it, but is then nearly arrested as the guards find him far overdue to pay the fee for not returning the boat on time.
  6. After moving around some money in the party, Nutae is able to pay off the fee for not returning the boat, and owes Erika, Tadrel, and Sam a little bit of money.
  7. Given that the party has no boat now, they await the next ferry headed towards Riftmount, and find out that given their menagerie of carts, animals, and people, they have to pay a little bit more to ride along. Sam, with the assistance of several party members, flawlessly steals a bit of pocket change from a pair of haughty merchants, and the party is on their way back to Riftmount.
  8. Back in Riftmount, the party regales their mission to Defender Figwell, who's glad to see them return in one piece given how long they've been gone. The prospect of a retake for their Journeymen test is afforded to them, however the party decides to be patient, and spend a bit more time training for the test.
  9. Back at the dorms, Warder Myron's son, the abrasive journeyman Skotta, declares to Nutae and Sam that he's keeping an eye on the party, noting that there have been agents of an organization known as the 'Rousseau Foundation' who've been looking for them, and that he's deemed their actions as suspicious.
  10. During the month of downtime, Erika continues working on a new spell, Tadrel pays some rent, and Nutae begins teaching Sam the specifics of being perceptive.
  11. There's another attempt at the test, yet unfortunately it's another blowout for the party. Spirits are a bit low, but there's likely another mission on the horizon for the party, and if given another month, a chance at taking the test again.
