Session 14: Loss of a Good Friend Report
General Summary
Recap:
- As Sam begins to cry, shifting into a dog form to cuddle up against her dead pet in mourning, everyone thinks of ways to potentially get retribution for this attack, as well as what exactly these mages were looking for.
- Over an hour, the guards interview the party, wanting to get their side of things, and alleviate their suspicion at the sight of the party's Guidewind emblems.
- Losses are consolidated, and they head home for Riftmount as soon as possible. Mostly everyone goes to their dorms as they arrive at midnight, but Sam instead heads off to sleep among her wolves in the stables; with her asking Lia to give her "Orby" for comfort.
- On the way to the stables, the Orb begins to reach out to Sam, asking her to bring it to the riverside, and bury it for now. Sam obliges, putting the Orb in the dirt outside of town without much question.
- During the night, Sam wakes up to the sounds of two people talking, who she recognizes as Warder Myron's kids, Skotta and Dola.
- As they talk, Sam hears about how they just finished rummaging through the party's rooms in the night, looking for something; but ultimately coming up short. Dola teases Skotta about his paranoia, yet Skotta continues to seem convinced that the party is hiding something.
- As Dola walks off to head to bed, Sam attempts to sneak out of the stables to trail Skotta further, and see what he's up to. Unfortunately for Sam, she was very clearly noticed by Skotta, who traded some ill words with Sam before he exclaimed that he was onto whatever the party was doing, and left; insinuating that he believes the party are spies against the Corporate. Sam just went back to bed, and the rest of the night was uneventful.
- In the following morning, Sam retrieved the Orb from where she buried it; as per it's request. Everyone met up again, and now set their sights on finally completing their full Journeyman advancement. The test was taken once more, and as things began to turn sour, Nutae was able to hold everyone together, pushing the party to success. Defender Figwell bestowed the party with the rank of full Journeyman, allowing the party permission to Rift travel.
- After their advancement, Figwell offered two jobs for the party to take. One was the previous job offered to them before Groven, to investigate demonic incursions in Blasterpeck, though now with a much higher prize and urgency. The other job, one that Nutae had been pushing to get for a while now, was to visit Dún'Cloch Bastion, and provide aid to the firbolg refugees there.
- Carefully weighing their options, the party ultimately decided that the demonic attacks in Blasterpeck were bound to get worse, and with the higher gold reward, they'd have an easier time providing aid afterwards. As almost everyone agreed on Blasterpeck, Nutae, absolutely furious, smashed a nearby wall in the archive with his halberd, causing Defender Figwell to become the angriest the party has ever seen her.
- After she scolded Nutae, and even the whole party, she intended on punishing them all for Nutae's actions. Most of the party somberly left the archives, but Tadrel stayed behind, now completely fed up with the party's antics. Tadrel confessed to Figwell that the party had stolen something from a client on their very first mission, and Defender Figwell's anger turned into pure rage.
- The tensions grew as Figwell pulled the party outside, berating them for their carelessness, especially right after a promotion. She demanded that the party show her what they'd stolen, and as everyone pressured Sam into yielding the Orb, Sam discovered that it somehow wasn't in her possession anymore.
- Panic ensued, but Sam had the idea to check back where the Orb had asked her to bury it. Everyone but Figwell went back to the riverside out of town, and within the dirt, the Orb was waiting. It pleaded with the party to not give it up to Figwell, expressing that it would die if they did so.
- The party continued to argue between themselves, with the orb displaying some kind of precognitive ability to endear itself to them. Eventually things became so heated that Nutae left in a fit of anger, abandoning the party to go back home to Dún'Cloch, and leaving everyone speechless.
