Session 12: Take Your Time Report
General Summary
Recap:
- After yet another failure of the Rift travel test, the party takes a moment to go through, and fully optimize their plan for the next attempt.
- In the meantime between now and their next attempt though, they take on another smaller mission to get some additional gold; which some of the party desperately needs.
- The mission is to help a nobleman in Waifport hunt a dangerous beast that's been roaming around in the plains; supposedly a lion. The party is to meet the nobleman at the Waifport docks during the day, and to keep the details of the mission entirely confidential, as per the client's request.
- It's a day's travel to Waifport, however the party has to stay the night due to the fact that it's too late in the day to meet the client. They rest in a seedy port-side inn, and Nutae asks the barkeep if there's any kind of underground fighting ring. The barkeep tells Nutae to meet him at midnight.
- Everyone goes to sleep, and Nutae sneaks out to meet with the barkeep, who leads him to an abandoned warehouse at the ruined end of the Waifport docks.
- In the warehouse, dockhands gather to bet on fighters, and Nutae is put up against a large muscular red dragonborn brawler. Nutae emerges victorious, handily beating the dragonborn, and earning a bit of gold for his trouble, though he's definitely a bit bruised.
- The following morning, the party takes notice of Nutae's bruises, and force him to divulge his nightly activities. They explain to him that what he was doing was illegal, which Nutae was unaware of.
- Quickly after, everyone goes to meet the nobleman client, a man named Simon Lombard, who sat waiting for them at the docks, in fine attire, and adorned with a tacky safari hat and musket.
- The party ask after Simon's intentions, and he reveals an unfortunate bit of trouble he's found himself in, where he was swindled by his former betrothed, and forced to sell his business to her father due to his tarnished reputation. Simon believes that killing this great beast and taking the credit for it will lead to his reputation being at least somewhat repaired, so that he can hopefully fix his life.
- Partly out of pity, the party goes along with this plan, and after a day of travel out of Waifport, they discover the den of this supposed beast.
- Nutae scouts out the cave, and finds that what's inside is no lion, but instead a chimera. Everyone gets ready, and after a spider-filled encounter, rush in and slay the monstrosity. Simon takes his lion head for credit, while Erika takes the chimera's dragon head.
- After the creature is dead, everyone heads back to Waifport, where Simon explains that the party should wait a short while before coming to his home to collect their reward; primarily just to be as inconspicuous as possible.
