Session 6: Not Home for Long Report
General Summary
Recap:
- With the merrow slain in their lair, the party turned towards the large turquoise-green gelatinous blob in the far end of the room. Upon closer inspection, it appeared to perpetually writhe and squelch, even moreso when prodded. Lia and Nutae began to reach inside, finding that someone was still alive in there, and that the blob was slowly consuming the flesh of corpses inside of it.
- Lia pulled out a young human woman from the blob, a person matching the description of Abbot's daughter, Brooke, though she was unconscious. Lia gave the woman a small bit of healing to awake her, and she was clearly nervous; particularly when the party began to talk about the nature of this blob and the merrow that had kidnapped her.
- Nutae helped escort her out of the cave to ease her mind, and after asking him if he was one of the firbolg warriors from the strongholds, she seemed reassured that he was. Soon after, everyone else made their way out of the cave, and began to head back to Westerbrook.
- After a couple days of travel back to the city, they returned to Westerbrook, and were immediately sent to Father James. The priest was extremely happy to see Brooke returned safely, and after getting Brooke's father, the pair were reunited; Abbot endlessly thankful for the party's service. Father James had gathered a community funded reward for the party, which was refused by some, and accepted by others.
- With their "vacation" concluded, they realized that they've probably taken longer than intended, and set out back to Riftmount. It was about another week before they arrive, and when they did, they immediately sought out Defender Figwell. While searching through the headquarters though, they came across Defender Rivera, who had appeared to have recently lost his leg.
- Rivera explains that what the party had found in the Tennsworth Mines was actually the entrance to an ancient ruined aboleth city, recently reclaimed by one of these aberrations. Rivera had a misstep, and lost his leg to the creature, but with the talents of Champion Weiss, they were able to kill the creature and its minions. After Rivera's explanation, he let the party know that Defender Figwell was upstairs in the Guidewind archives.
- Making their way upstairs, the party saw Defender Figwell swamped in paperwork, yet she stopped what she's doing, happy to see that the party was back. The party inquired about her busywork, and she told them of the increase in work the Guidewind's been under due to the groups of firbolg refugees seeking to leave the Merrow Crescent. However, Defender Figwell also had one of two tasks for the party to undertake upon their return.
- First, a call for aid in Blasterpeck, where the vicount, Polpop Briben, wanted the Guidewind to help investigate the source of minor demonic incursions, as well as any potential connections between locals gangs and the incursions. The other mission, was another call for aid, this one by the baron of Groven, Lady Fiora Murray, who wanted the northern forests of Groven investigated, in the hopes of preventing a potential large-scale combined raid of goblin and merrow upon the town.
- Erika voiced her interest in heading to Groven, stating that her last lead towards her son was said to be in that direction. With that in mind, as well as the interest of visiting Lia's hometown, the party settled on the Groven mission.
- In the following morning after a night's rest, the party's staple morning visitor Riggie Tealblood, offered her usual muffins, but also told them of other apprentices advancing to the Journeyman rank. Riggie soon headed off, and the party headed out northward for their next mission.
- After about another week of boat travel, the party came to the beginning of the terrestrial trail to Groven, at the Easterbrook Outpost. It was another few days before they came to the pleasant stop of Mixen's Rest, an inn and tradepost for those travelling to and from Groven. Inside, the party enjoyed some much-needed hospitality, and Erika learned a little more of where her son had gone. Eventually though, seeking to not linger too much longer, the party headed to bed, wanting to continue course for Groven in the morning.
