Session 2: The Great Rat Heist Report

General Summary

The party make their way to Ayerith's graveyard, only to find that the entrance that Rostliem found had mysteriously closed, leaving no trace of a door at all. Confused, Rostliem leaves to again travel down the tunnels and down into the dungeon underneath in the form of a rat, where he ingloriously got trapped beneath a door. However, after being rescued by Jetzen Sleaze, a goblin searching the dungeon for shiny things, Rostliem was brought upon the Great Rat King himself, who proceeded to try and eat him. Rostliem quickly assumed his human form once again and escaped the dungeon after a brief confrontation with the Rat King, only to find himself somehow at the bottom of a well. Eventually, after Rostliem made his way back to the party, they deduced that the entrances to the dungeon shift regularly through some sort of magical clock. Party members then split off in different directions to find an entrance and eventually all wind up back to the dungeon. There, Averel and Tony help pick three locks on a triple-bolted door and gain access to a lower level of the dungeon.    Descending further down, the party succumbs to literally every single trap they can and end up fighting a Gargoyle in an incredibly cramped corridor. After much struggle, the party turn the corner only to find an angry Ettin guarding the next doorway. Rhogar slays the beast, allowing access into a circular chamber, but not before Kairon and Rostliem turn back to explore the left side of the dungeon. Kairon accidentally steps on a pressure plate, falling into a huge pit of rusted spikes. What followed was a whole party effort of rescuing the wizard and his mangled foot from the trap. Rhogar and Rostliem fear Kairon only has a few hours to live before the bleeding kills him or the infection spreads so they rush back to the surface only to find the town being burned to the ground by Mesilist invaders.    Meanwhile, Averel and Tony descend further into the dungeon, stumbling upon a large octagonal crypt filled with sarcophagi. There they befriend Ecan Merimbo and learn that the dungeon used to belong to a Mesilist cult before it became infested with rats. All three of them help to kidnap the Great Rat King as Rhogar, Kairon and Rostliem bravely try (and fail) to stop Ayerith from burning to the ground. Averel, Tony and Ecan eventually make it back to the surface, welcomed by a town covered in ash and smoke. Elric's mother luckily survived the raid and so they devise a plan to escape the town before they're compromised by Mesilist guards. Yulia promises to triple the party's reward if they can escort her and her son to the nearby city of Ablefell. And so, the entire party meets outside of Ayerith's walls so they can set off into the forest and into a new chapter of their story.   All characters level up to Level 4.
