Session 18: From Towers to Seas Report
General Summary
Recap:
- Now within the center-most chamber of the old dilapidated manor, the party has their sights on Wren; however before they can do anything, an armored figured leaps from the shaft of the tower stairs to them.
- The armored figure gives no introduction, and simply instructs the party to follow them upstairs to talk to whoever has kidnapped Wren.
- The party obliges, and in reaching the top, come to see a small hideout/workshop; with Wren dangling within a cage precariously above a spike pit below.
- A man, clearly elven, but pale with mint green eyes and a raspy voice welcomes the party, and more specifically Celrin, to his abode. He explains his intention once again, to have Celrin captured in exchange for releasing Wren, but curiously, he also offers the party to fight the armored figure for the opportunity to save their friend; saying he won't intervene in the battle.
- Seeing an opportunity, Celrin draws her sword, and a fight breaks out. Keeping to his word, the elf–now known as Marius–stays to the sidelines and watches; though he's clearly amused by the whole ordeal. Wren manages to escape from the cage, but nearly loses her foot, and the armored assailant is reveal to be Wanda Addleman, Eleonora's sister, working with Marius.
- Wanda is nearly killed, but manages to survive by a thread. The fight itself led to a fire beginning to form in the upper rafters of the tower, and soon the party has to make a hasty escape to avoid being engulfed by flame. Where Marius disappeared to, nobody saw.
- Making it outside, a small dispatch of guards await them, keen to interrogate the party for the burning building behind them, and the nearly dead woman slung over their shoulder. Before many questions could be asked, Celrin spots the armored figure that had stolen Rainer's rapier perched on a nearby building, and that figure loosing an arrow which buys the party time for an escape.
- Rainer and Wren cut from the scene, while Celrin, Eleonora, and Noppa remain to be arrested by the guards; with Wanda also being taken. They're brought to a cold, nearly featureless prison, with no sight of each other. Rainer and Wren however, move back to the inn where their contact is waiting; keen to rest for the night, and contemplating having to potentially break their friends out.
- Celrin asks to see her father while imprisoned, but is instead visited in her cell by another one of her relatives, a distant cousin named Aralor; one directly in the line of succession for the Salia kingdom. Aralor recognizes Celrin after a brief moment, beginning to ask where she's been, and what's happened to her.
- After a brief moment, Celrin's released from imprisonment, and returned to her original home, Salia Castle. Aralor begins to tell Celrin that the Salia family has not birthed new blood for fifty years, and he suspects that Celrin's disappearance is tied to that; with Celrin needing to 'make good on [her] name' in order for the family to continue reproducing.
- Eleonora and Noppa are questioned, and due to their matching stories and compliance, are moved to much more hospitable cells, and eventually released late into the evening. Celrin continues to catch up with various members of her family, before retiring for the evening.
- In the following morning, the party fully reconvenes at the inn where their contact is waiting, Celrin now being accompanied by two guards at the behest of Aralor. The party is now prompted to come up with a name for themselves, and end up accepting one offered to them by Rayya.
- With everything in order, the party is able to depart, and they being to board Rayya's ship, sailing for the Heart of the Vally.
Character(s) interacted with
Marius: The mysterious figure that captured Wren in exchange for Celrin. Not much is known about his abilities or intentions, however he's referred to himself as a 'suitor.' Additionally, he offered to completely leave Celrin alone if she can figure out why he's been harassing her in the first place. Perhaps the book Wren took from his workshop will illuminate more about his intentions. Wanda Addleman: Eleonora's sister, who appeared to be working directly for Marius. The connection between the two isn't clear, but it seems as though Wanda may know more about Marius himself. In the chaos of the party escaping the burning building, Wanda was arrested alongside the party, and kept within the Decartis Castle prison while the party was released. Perhaps it's better she stayed there. Aralor Salia: Celrin's distant cousin, and direct heir in the Salia line of succession. He addressed Celrin with mostly concern, trying to tell Celrin what's best for her now, and what's expected of her now that she's returned. He seemed extremely upset at even the slightest mention that Celrin may be aligned with the Kingdom of Trinum, and told her to keep any mention of that to herself. While he does seem to genuinely care for Celrin, his demeanor is somewhat controlling. Aralerisa Tiasha Mara Salia: Daughter of Aralor, and the youngest in the direct line of Salia's succession. Pompous, bratty, and certainly talkative, Aralerisa was clearly excited to finally meet her distant aunt Celrin, however her opinions of Celrin's life certainly come off as judgemental and rude. Aralerisa may serve as a sign of what Celrin could've become if not for the trauma she'd received over the last fifty years. Vorela Shalis Salia: Vorela initially interrogated Eleonora and Noppa, throwing red herrings in her questioning, and eventually deeming the two not prisoners of war. Afterwards, she talked with Celrin, catching up after fifty years of not seeing each other. Celrin accurately recalled what had happened prior to the party's arrest, and Vorela was very aware of the woman Celrin has become. Vorela offered to do her best in letting Aralor loosen up a bit, and bought Celrin the opportunity to continue her mission with the party.
