I am Lo’Kar “Thirteen” Purake, 13th son of the Purake tribe. I am from the Spine of the World. I am a half Goliath, something very uncommon in Goliath tribes, but my Father has never been challenged over his obsession with a female human. For he is the strongest and he is the Clan leader.
My mother died giving birth to me – a failure Father has held against me for my entire life. Still, I am an able-bodied member of the tribe and if I contribute, they will not kick me out. I have had to work much harder than any others, but I still have not earnt their respect. Instead, I have turned my attention to the pursuit of understanding nature and the primal forces in our world with the Sky Watchers or druids as you would call them and yet even here I am still considered a failure, my shameful nickname… Thirteen *spits* follows me everywhere I go.
Visions have been plaguing me ever since my 19th Name Day – I wake up in terrible fits of panic and fever, not even the frigid colds can cool me down. I see a man in my dreams a fat, greedy, opulent man, in a walled city – I see blood and I feel uneasy. I see massive ugly iron chains, land that should be there is missing, a crater, it's upsetting the natural order and I need must fix this, for balance and my own sanity.
The elder Sky Watchers will not take me seriously and think that I am nothing but bad luck, I have still not mastered any wild shapes as the others in my class have. They say I will never obtain the ancestral bear form at this rate. My father looks at me in disdain every day and if these visions do not cease they will cast me out sick, addled and mad. The only honorable thing I can do is leave and search out the cause of this unrest within me. The winds compel me and let’s face it—This could be my way of being recognized by my siblings and the rest of the tribe, my rights to the ancestral bear form and to be rid of my shame as the 13th and last son of the Purake tribe. I left a message in the mud for my brethren Sky Watchers and my father – “You Shall See Me” and left in the night – They will think I have gone completely mad and chosen exile, but I will survive. I will return and take everything that I deserve.
I have traveled many, many miles but luckily my goliath heritage has made this fairly pain free. I see very few folk my size, and it has earnt me some sideways glares and the air down here is thick, gross and it stinks. I kept to the forests and woodlands on my travels and try to learn as much about the nature of the land outside of the Spine of the World… My travels have brought me to Baldur’s gate. A Ghastly walled city – where hard-working people are downtrodden and the fat and weak lord over them like cattle. City life is so strange. I feel I may find answers to some of my questions here. I must try to make some friends and learn more about this place.
