Father: drow
Mother: (Joyce) human, taken captive and held as a slave in Menzoberranzan (drow city in the Underdark).
Born at home, i.e. the house of my father
One brother, 3 years younger than me
Raised by my mother (who was lawful good).
I am neutral good, thanks to my mother’s influence.
Childhood memories: Others saw me as being different or strange, and so I had few companions. Just my brother and two other half-drow slave kids who lived nearby.
I became a sorcerer because…
When a huge spider threatened my brother, I became filled with anxiety. I lashed out instinctively and blasted the wretched thing with a force that came from within me.
I have made many attempts to escape the Underdark, but I didn’t succeed until I was 23. It still pains me that I had to leave my mother and brother behind, but they weren’t with me when the opportunity came and we agreed early on that if any of us got the chance to escape we should take it. So I did.
My mother comes from Baldur’s Gate. Before she was taken captive she had a family there; a loving husband and twin sons that were 12 at the time. She gave me a crude map to help me find my way. That map, and her necklace, are my most precious possessions. When I get to Baldur’s Gate I hope to find my half brothers and their families, but as my mother was taken 28 years ago I’m not sure they are still there.
On my way from the Underdark I had a very strange experience - I went through a tunnel and ended up in the Shadowfell. During my brief visit I had strange visions... It’s kind of hazy but there was a tall and slender woman, with flowing black hair, wearing a porcelain mask, and dark birds sitting on her shoulders. She didn’t really say anything, but I got a strong sense that she approved of my rejection of Lolth (the most important goddess in Menzoberranzan), and that I should strive to seek balance between light and dark.
I slowly made my way toward Baldur’s Gate, which is far, far from where I surfaced near Mithral Hall. It was hard, everything up here is so different compared to the Underdark. The people I met weren’t exactly kind and helpful, but that all changed when I stumbled upon a halfling cleric, Mara Pinehorn, near a place called Silverymoon.
In spite of my appearance and the rags I wore she didn’t shun me the way most people had. Instead she took me in and gave me a chance to find footing in my newfound freedom.
She later told me that she could sense raw magic in me, and wanted to see if I was susceptible to guidance and knowledge - because Mara loves knowledge above all.
She taught me about Mystra, the goddess of magic, and when I told her of my brief visit to the Shadowfell she also told me all she knew about the Raven Queen (which honestly wasn’t much).
I stayed with her a bit over a year, and she helped heal some of the deep mental wounds my life in the Underdark had given me.
Thanks to her I have learned to focus at least some of my powers into good instead of just defence and attack…
I finally arrived at Baldur’s Gate 10 days ago, and what fascinates me the most is that quite a few people seem to find my background interesting, and buy me food and drinks to hear tales of the Underdark. Also, as I have been ugly since I was born due to my not-so-dark skin, it is strange to be complimented for my exotic features - even if quite a few of the common folk stare when they see me.
After a few days of searching I managed to find one of my half brothers, Lionel! The irony is that the very night we met he was waiting for his twin brother for their weekly meeting at a tavern, but Leon never came and has been missing since then...
I hope he comes back soon, and that maybe one day we can try to free our mother and my other brother!
Shady also introduced me to some nice “herbs” that he likes to smoke. Gods, that evening was the first time I felt relaxed since I left Mara’s place a year ago!
Yesterday when we visited the market to buy some more “herbs” we witnessed a murder… I guess we could have stopped it, but Shady said the “victim” had it coming so we sank into the shadows instead. I’m still not sure if we were seen or not, and the whole thing makes me very uneasy,
