Blessed with the powers of the storm from a young age, Elmir's mystical abilities manifested during a great storm while on a journey by ship back to his home, Loudwater. In the storm, most on the ship were wiped out. Among the wreckage, Elmir, a half-elven child, was able to survive. As he laid there in the open sea with no coast or land in sight, he gave up hope and accepted his fate. However, the wind began to push him towards the distant coast line - nothing short of a miracle. He wondered why he was blessed to live on when everyone else he knew had perished. He sought answers, so he searched wide, speaking to mystics and prophets alike. None could provide the knowledge he wished for - why the gods had forsaken his family while blessing him with safety.
As the years went on, Elmir began to notice how the world responded to him and his emotions. When angry, a faint breaking of thunder could be heard on the horizon. When depressed, the drizzle of rain would respond in kind. Elmir understood that these changes were not of random occurrence, but of strong influence -influence from himself. At this realization, Elmir began to grow and hone his gift, his mind filled with thoughts of greatness.
During his training, he was approached by a formless being, one who told him to abandon his pursuit of the sorcerous arts. Confused, Elmir demanded it tell him who they were. The being declared himself to be Talos, the god of storms and destruction. Fearlessly, Elmir asked Talos why he must abandon his quest. Talos snarked at the comment and spoke, "I've watched you from a distance for some time. Your measly power will grow to nothing. I have chosen to take pity on you. I advise you abandon your quest of greatness." Elmir stood there in front of the god, stunned and perplexed. Talos continued, "You could not save even your family when I killed them for blood sport all those years ago." Enraged, Elmir now understood what had caused that great storm so many years ago. At this revelation, Elmir exclaimed "This will not be the last time we meet. I will destroy you and take your entire domain for myself. I will show the realms what a true master of storms looks like and the power they should hold." Talos burst out laughing at the defiance. He spoke, "If you wish to waste your life, I will allow it. Just know, when you believe your day of power to come, I will be there to snuff out your meager existence as an ember in ash." Talos then vanished in a great strike of lightning. From that day forth, Elmir has had his one goal, the motion to destroy Talos and become the new Lord of Storms.
Though the quest Elmir had declared for himself seemed clear as the blue skies that perused the realm, he knew such a task would not be accomplished so easily. He quickly began to fathom what was needed, only one thing - power. With this conclusion, Elmir began to seek out renowned and lordly beings to aid him in his quest of ascension.
Great tales of a new faction began to emerge in cities and towns along the Sword Coast. The stories spread, first in Thundertree, later to Mirabar. Though the charge of this faction changed depending on where you encountered the tale, the legendary leaders of this group remained the same. Among this party existed four brave heroes. First there existed a ruthless yet sophisticated Eldritch Knight, one named Aguilar who was rumored to wield the time-lost sword, Blackrazor. Second, a swift monk named Suul who was said to harbor the powers of the celestial Couatl. Third, a devout cleric, Malcer, who followed the teachings of Helm and spread those ideals wherever he went. Finally, a powerful war hardened dwarf named Barris, who was said to have carried the pride of the Mightyhammer clan in his legendary warhammer, Whelm.
After hearing the great stories of these heroes, Elmir could not think of a better group to accompany him in his quest to dethrone am evil god. Between all of these tales, the reoccurrence of the Yawning Portal caught Elmir's eye. A famed tavern in Waterdeep. It was to there he set out, intent on joining the group and using them to accomplish his extraordinary goal. Once within the walls of the city, he entered found the busy tavern, a huge taproom filled with all sorts of beings from across the planes. Elmir's intuition was correct - at the elegant corner roundtable, unlike any others in the tavern, sat four creatures, a half-orc, a lizardfolk, a human, and a dwarf. Though these four were acting no different from others in the tavern, throwing back ale and food to their heart's content, they gave off a presence - an aura - producing feelings of greatness and even more so, power. Elmir knew that this was the group, this was Daylight's Vanguard.
Elmir approached the group and after a tactful introduction and a night of friendly conversation and jest, he asked to join them. At the request, Barris slammed his mug of ale, paused for a moment, then exclaimed grasping Whelm, "Ay, you can take my place! This old dwarf's days are numbered and I ought to be returning this back to where it belongs!" The party's faces struck confusion at Barris' response, though none of the heroes seemed worried. Barris turned towards the group and stated "This man here seems to have great resolve in him, something which I have not felt since the first meetin' of you men. Trust in my judgement and trust in him." Barris then turned to Elmir, "And you, you best not be lettin' me or any of these fine heroes down!" Elmir exclaimed, "I will show you and these great heroes my strength and prove the trust you have given to me to be true." From that day forth, Elmir became known as Storm Lord Elmir, and would go on to prove himself a true leading member of the esteemed Daylight's Vanguard.
Once joining the faction, the group was tasked with dealing with the hordes of giants that were pillaging and raiding out of the Sword Mountains. The group hastily dealt with the giants and suppressed the threat by taking down the leaders of the three great giant strongholds. Upon return to Waterdeep, after their successful conquest against the invaders, Elmir had gained as much respect within the Vanguard as he gained for them in kind. It was at this point that Elmir stated his true intention of joining them and his quest to take down Talos. Understanding the prospect, the Vanguard agreed to help Elmir with his task and lend him their power, whenever that day should dawn.
Soon the group became aware of a terrible crypt told to be the home of Acererak. The name of this horrific place was known to be the Tomb of Horrors. Hearing of this, the heroes set off to rid the plane of this foul lord and end his evil corruption. The party eventually found the entrance to the tomb and entered, confident and determined to defeat him. After navigating the great maze of the crypt and encountering a fair deal of traps, the Daylight's Vanguard battled Acererak, an ancient Lich.
