Abandoned when still a pole, Landon was found by a local Saltmarsh fisherman. Never given a name, at birth the fisherman called the little Grung Landon after the son he lost to the sea.
As Landon grew, the fisherman introduced him to a religious sect that he found after the death of his son. The Fathomless is what they are called, worshippers of the depths.
 
It was only recently that things in Landon’s life went awry. Having just turned three and involved with is daily prayers, Landon was visited by The Fathomless, the patron that made a pact with the Grung, offering him secrets from the depths if the Grung would root out the disease that the patron felt that was growing within the ranks of the Fathomless sect. Landon, frightened by the encounter, did the only thing he thought he could and he said he would. Pleased the patron sealed the pack by causing the grung’s skin to develop bright orange spots.
