Personal history
Early Years
Bryn was born to a relatively modest lifestyle in a small village across Eldsrikh's Bay from the ancestral capital of Eldessar, the city of Eldenholme. Her family were fishermen who came from a long line of fishermen and Bryn was likely bound for that life. But, even from a young age, Bryn knew she wanted more out of life than this. She wanted adventure.
As she grew into her adolescence, Bryn also grew rebellious. She wanted out and saw no way to that. Her father, Obryk it seemed wouldn't allow her to leave home so she pushed back on this. She took to running with a group of thugs comprised of youngsters of about the same age from the surrounding villages and her own. The group of miscreants were usually, little more than a nuisance but there were some criminal acts that were ascribed to them.
Local Legend
Short of her eighteenth birthday, Bryn's life changed forever. The decade following the Horde Wars was hard for those living on the shores of the Nohr Relds. Many denizens of the horde survived the Wars and some of these took to raiding after them. The losses suffered by the kingdom meant that official protection by the Crown was not always available. During one such raid, Bryn's village was overcome and captured by raiders.
Before the raiders came, however, Bryn's life took a turn. She set about to head out one evening but her father rebuked her and warned her there might be danger. She of course rebuked him and even called him a coward for worrying about rumors. It was the last time the two spoke. The raiders came at night, while Bryn was away, and her father was killed in the initial attack.
The occupiers then set about to capturing and terrorizing the locals whilst cleaning out their coffers and stores. Bryn and her gang of ruffians escaped capture and later, hid away. Rather than let them flee, the young woman shook off her initial shock and convinced her friends to stay and fight. They instead a plan to weaken the raiders by way of guerilla tactics and eventually free the captured village militia members.
The youngsters were successful and even came to be seen as heroes, especially their leader. In the years that followed, Bryn and her friends' legend grew, much to her chagrin. She blamed herself for her father's death and might have despaired over a truth only she knew. Instead though, she turned to faith. Bryn had never been all that devout before but she turned to the god Odun and made a vow to do better; to redeem herself for her father.
Bryn spent the next decade splitting time between the family business and with the local militia. Her desire for adventure had been muted the earlier tragedy but it eventually returned. Military service muted it some but even this would not be enough for long.
A Journey West
Eventually, the time came that Bryn had to leave home if she was going to make her own way. The fisherman's life wasn't for her, that much was clear. Her decision saddened her family and those who cared for her and she vowed to return some day. Then she headed west and, with a merchant caravan, crossed the continent all the way to the Stormlands region of the kingdom of Elysia.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Bryn was regarded as a local hero in her home village and numerous other like-sized fishing hamlets in the surrounding area. She was held in this high regard because of her role in thwarting a group of raiders who terrorized the area late in the summer of CA 10.
Failures & Embarrassments
Ironically, the same incident that was the source of her status as a folk hero was the source of her greatest shame. Bryn blamed herself for the death of her father at the hands of the same raiders she later helped thwart.
