Physical Description

She is a short, very muscular woman. With her black, looser clother, she appears to be far more slender. Her legs, thighs, upper arms and shoulders can attest to many years of carrying heavy load over longer distances.

Yan has a small nose, sharp cheekbones and a petite oval-shaped face.

Identifying Characteristics

She has a big, black scar across her face she never speaks of. A birthmark shaped as a moon covers around 2 cm of the upper part of her abdomen.

Physical quirks

She can move her ears on command, though she would kill you if you asked her to demonstrate. She has a vein in her forehead others call 'River Styx' which pops when she is especially infuriated. She blinks extremly fast right before a sneeze.

Apparel & Accessories

She has several black piercings in both her ears and prefers to wear heavy, dark make-up. She usually wears black tights with many pockets (they tend to be fitted, and usually is of a leather component). She wears a dark- long sleeved turtleneck shirt, and usually a black, loose coat/hoodie over that. She is never seen wearing dresses or skirts, for she prefers to wear practical clothes that offers protection, warmth and comfort.

Specialized Equipment

She has a black Shiba Inu named Poppy. Poppy is a very sweet natured dog, but can be an absolute savage. Poppy is an independent dog, and can decide to do things on her own. She will not listen to anyone but Yan, and has principles of her own which she never crosses.

Personal history

She was born and raised in a small village in Severos. She was left as an orphan on the doorstep of a small hunter's cottage. There, a hunting team of older men raised her and took her hunting and provided her with food and clothes. As they were lonely, hunting for food and a few coin, she was a child in desperate need of care. An usual bond was formed and she was trained in things strictly not considered 'lady-like'. However, the men (Isaac, Lambert and Trevor) were old and by the time she was an young adult, the men died one by one.
 
She attended a local school in the village, but the lack of coin forced her to attend a military academy as a teenager. This academy specialized in assasination and tracking, and here she would refine her hunting skills to perfection. However, there was little work and her mentor Michaela recommended her to enlist in the military overseas. She enlisted in another department in the Imperial Military, and later would be shipped off to Skovland to fight. Here she would rise through the ranks in the military, and eventually would become a sharpshooter. At the mere age of 19, she was already known as 'Deadshot'. In the military is where she met Clarissa. A tall, blonde, tanned and muscular woman with a hearty laugh. They became best friends, and later, girlfriends.
 
After years of constant battle, Yan was getting tied of little pay for all the work she put in. She wanted more coin, freedom to move around, and take on contracts of her own choosing. Female soldiers would also have constant suitors that would propose marriage for female soldiers were "excotic" in the eyes of some men. A man called Veleris approached her, but she turned him down. About a year later, when Yan was around 24, Clarissa announced she was leaving the military. She left without a word, and Yan quit the military too. She came to Duskvol after tracking Clarissa down, and was met by Veleris, Clarissa's new husband. Clarissa explained she was in need of coin, and told Yan she could no longer see her. Yan was heartbroken, but understood the predicament. She couldn't possibly support herself and Clarissa with the few coins she had. Yan started to do several contracts, in hopes of getting new rifles, and one day, getting her girlfriend back.
 
She found solace in a kindred spirit of a similar background as her. His name was Steiner, an assassin, and she would sometimes work with him. They would meet up at strange places, share some beers and stories. Steiner was a man who had lost his wife and his child to vengeful victims from a former job. Haunted by the war and the innocent lives she was forced to take, she vowed to never take orders from someone else again.
She was now 26, and had recently done a job when she stumbled upon a little pup in the woods near Duskwall. She named this little pup Poppy, and decided to take her on as her hunting dog.

Education

Homeschooled for a time in Severos, enlisted in a small fraction of the Imperial army. Then educated through the military academy before being sent to Skovlan. She quit the academy and the army and the age of 24.

Employment

She would sometimes work for and with Steiner, but often worked independently under the alias 'Deadshot'.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Never let a target escape alive until she was in Skovlan as a 22 year old girl and saw a child and a pregnant mother run across the road. Her sergeant ordered her to kill them, but she refused. Despite the objection, the sergeant made someone else make the kill, right in front of her. She was reprimanded, but because her service and reputation, she was let off easy.

Failures & Embarrassments

Lost her girlfriend to a man who had once proposed to Yan. Failed to save a girl and her mother from her fellow soldiers.

Mental Trauma

She never knew her own mother and father. She was raised by three elderly men whom she cared deeply for and they all passed away from old age. She finds it hard to form attachments after her girlfriend left her. But those she trusts, she is very loyal to. Social talk is difficult for her, as she has been a military girl most of her life. It is impossible for her to go from looking at a man lose his life through the binocular on her rifle, to talking gossip with upper class people. Their worlds are too far apart for her to understand social codes.

Intellectual Characteristics

She respects people with great talents, and never underestimates her enemies. She cares for her friends, but feels little empathy for other people. As a hunter, she feels compassion for her target in the way that she cannot let the target escape and suffer endlessly. She tends to have a quiet, seething anger rather than explosive. And prefers to not talk too much with people she does not know. Only her friends get to know her name, or pet her dog. Poppy will only allow herself to be petted by people Yan likes. She loves to read, and enjoys painting. She prefers silence, and doesn't like to talk about the fact that she is an assassin.
