Headmaster of Nightcrest Academy.
- Gender
- Male
A stern presence that commands respect but is rarely seen outside of specific events or circumstances. Seems to actually approve of rule-breaking to an extent, as he has not punished Oliver or any members of the group for exploring off-limits spaces or acting on their own accord. Also seems to have wards in all sorts of places around Nightcrest that alert only him-- including on secret rooms and passages that others are not aware of. Clashes with the Deputy Headmaster when they do interact, but his authority tends to shut down any argument made against his decisions.
It was revealed after Lucretia Ambrose was resurrected in secret by Idolin that, to some extent, he practices necromancy. As the party learned more about the Darktongue Cabal, Alistair Ambrose informed them that none of the necromancers in that secret network were aware of who Idolin was. Stranger still was that Idolin was chosen for the position of Headmaster via the wishes of former Headmaster Berina Diabris, who left a letter stating such "in case of her death or disappearance." This was highly irregular but followed traditional rules, and thus was accepted by Guildmaster Ghale Ziafi when Diabris was trapped in the Feywild during the Realignment. Based on Guild records, Idolin attended Nightcrest himself decades ago (hailing from Almaaz in Serediza), returning to adventure in his home realm for some time and gaining a decent reputation there before travelling and eventually applying to teach at Nightcrest Academy. Modest adventuring accomplishments to his name, but nothing spectacular or (more importantly) strange.
In Autumn of the Year 1088, Lyra Tarniel-- a paladin and Adventurer's Guild Advisor-- was sent to Nightcrest Academy in order to investigate rumors that Idolin was practicing necromancy. Idolin became increasing difficult to find during this time, to the point of not appearing in his office when he should. Eventually evidence in the form of illegal spell components were uncovered in a secret room in the Headmaster's tower, but at that point it was too late. On the 37th of Autumn, 1088, Idolin appeared having replaced on of his eyes with a magical one and initiated a massive event that planeshifted Nightcrest Academy into the Shadowfell. Idolin was last seen in the school as it vanished into the massive Shadowfell crossing, doing battle with several of the Academy's other faculty members. It is assumed that he survives and inhabits the Academy, now located in the Shadowfell. His allegiances and true motives remain unclear.
