Personal history
Having been brought up physically weak in a family of woodcarvers/woodcutters, Lero never had a chance in the family occupation. He tried harder and harder, but he was too fragile to make a difference.
One day, as he was again trying to at least chop some wood down, he saw a white horse, trapped under a fallen tree. It must've been one cut down by a family member. As he came closer, he noticed a broken tooth-like protrusion coming from the horse's forehead.
He tried to move the tree, yet it wouldn't bulge. The horse tried to help with the pushing effort, to no avail. Lero needed a moment before thinking of a way to free the creature. Using a saw he had at hand, he started sawing away near the creature, sawing the log in two when the other half of the tree simply rolled off the horse as the tree-top was seperated from the base.
Now free, the horse ran as fast as it could after standing up. Instead of running away, it paused for a moment, to look at the boy who had just saved it. After a moment, it continued dashing back off into the woods.
A deed well done, Lero came back home empty handed, followed by a negative remark by his sister, to which he accidentally replied how he'd like to see her free a horse trapped by a tree....which she heard....in her head...it was quiet for a moment before she started screaming.
Lero left his family, after this incident. While the remainder of the family wrote it off as some usual family squabble, Lero was aware that something indeed had changed. Over the course of the next few days, these occurances would accumulate. At first it was forming mental connections to speak, which would tire him out. Soon he was able to manipulate objects like his hand was handling them.
On that day, this unicorn had done something with him and he was not powerless anymore.
Life should be preserved. Life that takes other life, shall be taken. The magical creatures of this world need to be protected.
Employment
Life in Eden
After having freed a mystical creature from starving under a fallen tree, a member of a secret organization tracked the place down to look for a potential portal opening of sorts. Said investigation led to a scrawny human, who apparently could resist questioning without receiving answers first, at least according to the branch that had recently made its home on the forest floor before flinging itself at the Eden-official.
"I want to join!"
After a quick exchange of spells and answers, the Eden-official got the information they were looking for, and in exchange even answered a few questions Lero had. This resulted in an aligned interest in protecting creatures that are now literally out of this world. In this case, having Lero join the ranks as a newcomer seemed to be the simplest solution to keep this unicorn case under the blanket.
