The Most Famous of Hins, started his life in the Halfling Downs. Growing up in such an idyllic land, he was faster, stronger, and much more handsome than the average Hin.
Master Boram, who spent most nights drunk at the Pig n' Whistle, took a liking to the young lad - no, not in that way, get your mind out of the gutter. It seemed that Master Boram, fondly thought of as the village drunk, was actually an accomplished monk, in fact he called himself a "Drunken Master".
Now Reed liked drink, and came from a brewer's family, so he knew drink in a way that no other Hin could understand, but he had never heard of a Drunken Master, and his interest was peeked. He studied, and drank, with Master Boram, during any free time he had. Soon he had mastered the skills that Master Boram had taken a lifetime to master.
Then the Green River flooded. Many Hin were swept away by the waters, but Reed and Master Boram, were able to balance atop the floating wreckage (no worse than the bar floor after the seventh ale). Together, they saved countless Hin from death and drowning. Reed became a local hero.
A traveling bard, from a nearby passing carnival, soon found Reed. As luck would have it, with his personal biographer in tow, Reed was asked by the village elders to travel to the Big City and meet Vintra Marktunsel of the Chicane Guild (one of the few successful Hin businesses operating beyond the Downs) for an important mission.
