Quarries Found and Prodigals Returned
It’s been a few days since my last entry. Habits take time to cultivate I suppose. It’s also been an eventful few days. So much so that I’m not entirely sure where to begin. As it turned out our new companions were members of a Shadofellean religious sect which does not enjoy a warm welcome in these parts. They traveled with us part of the way to Never Sent before taking their leave all save an Eladrin named Atropa. I think Nymyra and I were both sad to see the wee one go.
Never Sent is a lovely town, provided economically destitute, despotically ruled public labor camps are to one’s liking. The Hag in charge of this particular blight on the Dawn Valley’s landscape is one Lady Redcap. She has about as winning a disposition as you’d expect from a Hag. That’s one of the things that makes this particular mega-coven such an anomaly. Traditional reasoning puts most Hag covens at three members. Two of them will never trust the other long enough to work together, more than three usually devolves into factious infighting quickly but three seems to be the sweet spot where there are just enough shifting alliances and opportunities to gang up on one another that they can usually make it work. I have NEVER seen a coven this big that was still in any way operational. That tells me that either we’ve got a VERY powerful elder Hag calling the shots that none of the other sisters feel confident enough in their own power or the trustworthiness of potential allies to challenge; or, (and this I believe to be the more likely scenario) whomever they’re allied with in the Dreaming Realm (my money is on the Dreaming Darkness) is seen as a significant enough mutual threat that it keeps the sisters from engaging in the sorts of things Hags are wont to engage in amongst their own.
The townsfolk are enslaved by the Coven. They have them working in shifts on dreamweave looms which, the workers are told, is essential to preserve the fragile health of the afflicted Fey Lord though this turned out not to be the case. As far as we’ve been able to ascertain the dreamweave was actually being used as a spell component to keep some sort of primal serpentine guardian beneath the town asleep. It wouldn’t surprise me to lean that the Fey Lord has some similar banners burning in his home as well but I’m getting ahead of myself.
We first learned of the serpent from an old druid residing in a tree near the town. Unfortunately that required us to make contact with Lady Redcap as she was the only person who could grant us access to the guardian. As it turned out she had a nightmare trapped in a chaos engine burning large swaths of the forest she and her 8 legged minions needed to harvest the dreamweave. Dispatch the Chaos Engine and she would grant us access to the guardian (I believe her thinking was that the guardian would attack first and ask questions later ridding her of two problems for the price of one. Say what you will about Hag Hubris but you can set your bloody watch by it.) On our journey to address the C.E. we encountered a creature named Zea posing as a Bugbear who, by an extraordinary stroke of luck, ended up being the daughter of our missing Firbolg Amaranth. With her help we were able to banish the nightmare back to the Dreaming Realm (ensuring a future ally to work against the Coven with us) and also that her mother appeared to be suffering from a similar sleeping malady to the Fey Lord.
Zea escorted the party to a secluded farm where she lives with her mother and a woman named “Gloria” who would appear to be one of the Shadar-Kai from the Blightwood Incident. I suspect she is Kirell nun Moman and not the other though I will hopefully have that confirmed before we depart this Realm. Zea is an exceptional host with a well-stocked wine cellar (Sadly Umbral Glen Vineyards was well represented though, in fairness, most consumers don’t have my particular set of issues with that particular family) though it was clear she was overwhelmed. She is also, understandably, extremely protective of her mother. I’m fairly certain Atropa used enchantment magic to help ensure her place in the room when Fen initially tried his greater restoration. Still undecided regarding what to do with that.
As it turned out she was under some sort of attack which necessitated us going to the Dreaming Realm to free her. Long story short she was under attack by some sort of apex Dreaming predator which I must remember to get some notes on before I depart. Not to be upstaged by something as trivial as a pitched battle between ourselves, dream creatures and dreaming warriors; Eldoris has returned to us!!!! I have only had a limited amount of time to speak with her since our departure from the Dreaming Realm. Evidently though it’s only been a matter of days for us, five years have passed for El. She had political things to see to at home she wasn’t prepared for so arranged with The Orchestra to buy herself a bit more time it would seem. Understandably there are a slew of mixed emotions. Obviously she and Nymyra had their issues to work out and Ranelmore (Daniel the Wizard not Erazmus the Thief) is Ranelmoring but fortunately is stuck back on Kericai watching from there and sending stoning repeatedly.
Whatever she’s been up to these past 3 days/5 years it seems to agree with her. Her look is a bit less haunted and she seems infinitely more assured of herself which is lovely to see. Still it is a bit of an adjustment. I’d never in a million years begrudge her doing what she needed to do or taking decisive action to try to protect one’s family. I won’t apologize for protecting mine her included and I’d never expect anyone else to do so. It sounds silly to write out but it’s just that…five years is a lot for most Big Folk. If the past few years have taught me anything though it’s that you should appreciate the time you have with those you love as even a long lifespan can be cut short. We’re going to need to address the Terrasque in the room that is The Orchestra soon. It’s not exactly like El is in a group where extra-planar entanglements are rarities. We’ve got a warlock, clergy of both the fighting and non-fighting varieties, a barbarian with a spirit guide, a Kalashtar who by definition come with an extra planar entity and were I to drop dead tomorrow I’d still have things to do for the powers-that-be in Shadowfell. I know it’s been five years for her but if she still things her new associate is going to somehow be a deal breaker for this party we owe it to her to make sure we dissuade her of that notion.
Considerably more to tell but sadly my glass nears empty, my eyes are growing heavy and Jarvyxx is sending me subtle hints it’s time to retire for the evening.

04:17 pm - 24.09.2022A Successful Rescue and a Thickening Plot
I find myself forced to admit, albeit grudgingly, that the forests surrounding Matron Sorrow are quite lovely. Enough old growth to be truly dark, plenty of nocturnal fauna and with a decent fog on it almost reminds me of home. The caravaners stayed wit...

Once again I find myself in the Feywild. Rapture. I’m jotting this down as I ride in a caravan on my way to our next destination. Our meeting with the Plane Wardens on this side of the veil went well. The information I was able to provide them about...
07:20 pm - 06.07.2022On Patience and Idealism
At long last we seem ready to actually start this so-called Trial of Justice. I almost feel badly about my desire to just get on with it. I understand what an honor this is and how significant an experience it is for dragons and I’m trying to be mindfu...

Fortune smiled and Platinum’s Rest is, in fact, home to a Plane Warden outpost and they were agreeable to meeting with me. The trip was both illuminating and frustrating. The Wardens did have records dating back that far and were willing to give me a...
04:21 pm - 26.05.2022A bit of family history
Picking up from my last entry, I thought it made sense to organize my thoughts a bit on my family's connection to the violet furred Firbolg the Matron's Sorrow hags seem to be so keen on finding. The connection I believe exists at any rate. I shouldn't p...

Contacts & Relations
Shadowfell Contacts:
Patience: Blind tiefling who extended initial invitation to Queen’s Court.
Night: Ancient goddess of the dead. Wants Howlynz as a mortal agent.
Vinaad: Dhampir hunter from Shadowfell. Wants to meet and discuss the elimination of a vampire named Skippio “Skippy” Drakonis who is a member of Duke Ranelmor’s court. Offering 10,000 platinum and the prospect of future partnership. Finally met w/ Vinaad prior to 09/10/21 session. Target is currently on Bethimm in a remote location known as the Eve Wastes. Drakonis is, according to Vinaad, a dream eating vampire who made his adopted daughter into a Dhampir as well (hence his desire to end him) and who keeps the denizens of the sparsely populated wasteland beholden to him by controlling their water supply. Provided Howlynz with wooden correspondence box that, after mixing blood with the ink, allows him to communicate w/ Vinaad and vise-versa across planes.
Valor Uthain: High Sorcerer for the Queen.
Lady Bethruil Naglodash: Elven lady of Shadowfell (not the smokable kind) who is acting as Howlynz’s patron to the Court. Shadow Sorceress with multiple trading interests both in Shadowfell and adjacent planes. She evidently asked for me by name. One of the Shader-Kai. Now officially Howlynz’s sponsor for membership in the court. Has two vamp slaying gigs she wants him to do and will ultimately help him arrange a conflict with Duke Ranelmor. Has given him a set of magic stationary with which to communicate with her. Her servant Ardenuil can arrange transport to the Court or anywhere else in Shadowfell he needs to go.
Galaria: Cute drow servant of the Queen. Wanted to be a bard but was turned down for tutelage. Says she may attempt to pursue her dream again once her service to the Queen is up. Avid fan of history. Possible candidate to manage shadow crossing on Kericai if we are able to go the Lonely Mountain Inn route.
Havenheim Contacts:
Thradman Copperhorn: Current head of Copperhorn Clan. His father broke sacred oaths made to a powerful Dao but with Howlynz’s help he smoothed it over and is back in good standing.
Lord Bithrys: Said powerful Dao.
Havenheim Noble Families (Big 5): Bronzehammr, Copperhorn, Goldbraid, Brasshide and Silverheart (all of whom are ginormous tools)
Wright and Archibold: An ancient giant warforged and platinum golem respectively. Found on The Forge.
Warden Giarra Silverheart and Barbim Boulderbuckle: Corrupt warden of The Forge and decent captain of the guard on same.
Republic Contacts:
Lictor Anton Califray of Relon: Master Lictor of the Republic who took issue with our activities on Havenheim. Had vaguely threatening letter delivered to the party on Kericai in which he stated that he was aware that it was our group who helped oust the Silverhearts on Havenheim and basically put the party on notice. Hinted that he wanted to meet with us to see if we could be “reasonable”. Call me paranoid but that seems like a titanically stupid idea and tantamount to painting a large red “ARREST ME” sign on one’s self.
Bloodsucking Cockwombles Existing on Borrowed Time:
Duke Erazmus Ranelmor: Prominent leech well connected in the Shadowfell Court. Was the last keeper of something called the “old blood of House Ranelmor”. Broke off from the family roughly 1300 years ago to study forbidden Shadowfell lore. Daniel Ranelmor says the family is done with him and says they will likely be grateful to Howlynz for ending him. CURRENTLY IN POSSESSION OF MY DAMNED SWORD. Also claims to have been on the receiving end of it once.
Elijah: Unclear connection to this whole thing but made the introduction between the vampire who came into possession of Grim Fandango somehow and the Duke. Seemed to have some sort of mentoring relationship to Gilroy. Sire perhaps? I was able to control his body and voice during my divination vision.
Gilroy: Very young and profoundly stupid young vampire. Bought his way into Duke Ranelmore’s court by offering him Grim Fandango as a gift. Unclear how he came into possession of it. The account he gave was that he found it in Shadowfell though he was clearly being coached in that story by Elijah.
Count Daedus: Big, burly goliath vampire lieutenant of Ranelmore. Gilroy was assigned to serve him in a town called Blackmill in which Daedus leads a faction of vampires. He also appears to have some connection to Great Uncle Howlynz as well. Looking forward to kicking his ass on several different levels.
Ursula's Hand:
Echo: Despite their differences, Howlynz and Echo have always gotten on like a house on fire and are, to date, the only members of the party to actually be able to boast matching t-shirts proudly declaring each of their participation in the now legendary ECHO AND HOWLYNZ'S DAY OF FUN.
As a person Howlynz greatly admires Echo's desire to do the right thing and seemingly infinite capacity to love and lead with their heart.
Harahuaith: One of the first members of Ursula's Hand he ever conversed with the pair have gotten on well since their first meeting. Though infinitely amused by, and oftentimes willing to help out with, Harahuaith's various schemes, Howlynz is still quite careful to never actually take a card himself.
The qualities he admires most in Harahuaith are his quick wits, his insatiable entrepreneurial-ism and his ability to maintain a moral compass despite his relative moral flexibility on many issues.
Fen: Seriously? Who the hell doesn't like Fen?! How would one even go about not liking Fen? Like most sentient beings in the cosmos, Howlynz is quite fond of the earnest young cleric naivety and all.
He admires Fen's compassion, his desire to go above and beyond and to give of himself to help others without complaint. On some level he envies his friend his ability to see every glass as half full and it does kill him a little bit every time his blood hunting cynicism bumps into his friend's desire to believe the best in everyone.
Bear: Howlynz found Bear to be quite a welcome addition to the team. In addition to his considerable combat prowess he finds Bear to be honest, to the point and ruled as much by his heart and his compassion for others as he is by his rage.
He admires Bear's straightforward approach to life, his capacity for mercy as well as mayhem and easygoing nature. He also can't wait to help his friend discover the life changing joys of facial hair grooming!
Nymyra: In some ways they're the most different while in other ways they're very much alike. While he'd never be so gauche as to admit such a thing aloud, Howlynz trusts the rogue implicitly. Nymyra knows who she is, what she wants and precisely what she's capable of.
He admires her pragmatism as well as her resourcefulness and appreciates the professional understanding they have as being two members of the party who kill things for money. As much as he hates it when his cynicism rattles someone like Fen's rose colored world view, he finds it a relief to not have to sugar coat or tactfully talk around said cynicism when he works with Nymyra.
Eldoris: Probably the most changed of all of the relationships he shares with his fellow party members, Howlynz and Eldoris grated on one another when they first met but as time has moved on the two have grown to have quite a close, almost paternal friendship. After finding out what had transpired between El and her family, Howlynz had a room made up for her at Bane Hill and has let her know that she's welcome with the Felsprockets whenever she chooses and, if he's being honest, has come to consider the Triton bard as an honorary Felsprocket.
He admires her independence, her strength (even when she herself doubts it) and her unique blend of cynicism and hedonism. Though he's never told her such, he was extremely proud of how she comported herself when she finally confronted her father and uncle. Knowing full well that she did not wish for things to turn out as they did, Eldoris still did what needed to be done regardless.
Gurgles: Truly what can be said about this epitome of wit and sophistication both above and below the waves? This prince among amphibians? Would Howlynz, himself, ever go so far as to say that his grand-lizard was somehow superior to other lizards throughout all planes of existence? He absolutely would without a nanosecond's hesitation! It is simply a statement of objective fact. If he had the power to make other people's grand-lizards less lame he would, of course, use it to the betterment of all but he does not. Hardly his fault he happened to win the grand-pet lottery on the first go.
He admires EVERYTHING about Gurgles and has spent a...perfectly reasonable sum making sure that he will be as comfortable as possible in his Bane Hill digs.
Honorary & Occupational Titles
4th Marquess of Midnight, Bane Hill & The Blightwood
Wealth & Financial state
Though the family coffers were somewhat depleted by events leading up to his parents' death House Felsprocket is still financially quite well off and stable. Working with the Maddock Clan has also proven quite lucrative.
Family Ties
House Felsprocket
First Generation:
• Howlynz I: Great Grandfather who was a commoner eventually ennobled after services rendered to the first cousin of the King of Zelifryxx. Married to Bezzadella and produced four sons Howlynz II, Bailywhixx I, Ozzryk and Ambroze. One known sibling, a twin sister named Heleenz, a ranger who was killed by a werewolf many years before Howlynz I got the title.
Second Generation:
• Howlynz II : The “lost heir” of the family. A highly skilled blood hunter in his own right but became obsessed with finding a vampiric variant of the process used by the Order of the Lycan to give them their hybrid lycanthrope form. Disappeared into Shadowfell close to 400 years ago. Whereabouts currently unknown.
• Bailywhixx I: 2nd son of Howlynz I who ended up assuming the title upon his father’s death after his elder brother’s disappearance. Howlynz’ grandfather. Married to Ezzwyn and produced 3 sons. Bailywhixx II, Gimble and Oorzym. Abdicated the majority of his lordly duties when his health began to fail as he got older to his eldest son though maintained the title and served in an advisory capacity until his death.
• Ozzryk: Born with a withered leg which kept him from following in either the blood hunter or ranger tradition of the family, Ozzryk was, however, extremely clever even by gnomish standards and is a very talented artificer. One of the two surviving members of this generation he currently serves as an advisor to his great niece and nephew. Creator of Bhorza, a large spider shaped homunculus who is a notorious coward and whom he treats like a pampered lapdog despite her size and arachnid form.
• Ambroze: Lacked the magical skill to become a blood hunter, he is a skilled ranger and currently serves as captain of the rangers in service to House Felsprocket. Married to Zedarra “Zeda” Burrowfang and produced one daughter, Ezwykk who has followed in her father’s footsteps and has begun assuming more and more of the physical ranging duties as her father gets older.
Third Generation:
• Bailywhixx II: Eldest son of Bailywhixx I and Ezzwyn and Howlynz III’s father. A talented blood hunter but painfully shy, he is, to date, the only Lord of Bane Hill to have an arranged marriage to Arabeetha Wyldbrook, the 2nd daughter of a well-respected family of forest gnomes from the eastern part of the continent. Magically adept she was trained as a wizard but never pursued adventuring. She died along with Bailywhixx II when the wreath with the cursed chain was delivered to the family’s summer cottage. Produced one son, Howlynz III.
• Gimble: 2nd son of Bailywhixx I and Ezzwyn. Blood Hunter. Never married and died along with his younger brother Oorzym helping retake the Old Cogswattle Place.
• Oorzym: 3rd son of Bailywhixx I and Ezzwyn. Married to Nyxxa and produced one daughter, Oozmi. Nyxxa died due to illness when Oozmi was 4 and Howlynz III was 5. The loss made Oorzym extremely close to his daughter and nephew and, while he did not share his daughter’s prodigious intellect, he was extremely supportive of her academic endeavors and was extremely proud that, as he put it, “she got her mother’s brains not mine.” He died retaking the Old Cogswattle Place along with his older brother Gimble.
Fourth Generation:
• Howlynz III: Current Lord of Bane Hill. Blood hunter who was also gifted with sorcery after a cursed artifact (designed to be fatal) linked a piece of Shadowfell to his soul. Currently unmarried and off world honing his skills and replenishing the depleted family coffers.
• Oozmi: Daughter of Oorzym and Nyxxa and first cousin to Howlynz III (though the pair were raised more like siblings). She is a gifted artificer and extremely close to her great uncle Ozzryk. She is Howlynz III’s official seneschal and manages the day-to-day operations of Bane Hill advised by Ozzryk and Ambroze. Currently undertaking a significant research project for the Maddock Clan at Bane Hill. Creator of Ziggi, her hand shaped homunculus servant whom she believes her cousin spoils.
Religious Views
Howlynz is, himself, not particularly religious though he respects those who are.
Hobbies & Pets
Howlynz’s Very Good Bois
• Mecha Mogg: In the annals of Good Bois, Mecha Mogg is a prominent name. Howlynz’s faithful Steel Defender mastiff companion. Howlynz found this prince among pups being horribly oppressed as a rentable mount in a Ranelmor friendly stables on Kericai. Sensing the mechanical marvel’s potential, the fact that he was deeply unhappy at the stables (Howlynz assumed) and seeing as he was there to jack Ranelmor crap anyway, Howlynz kept the living hell out of the valiant clockwork mount and named him after Mogg, a Banehound he’d had as a child. The two have been neigh inseparable and Mogg has gotten upgrades to his sensors, claws and fangs so that he can be used for blood hunting. Also a sweet paint job so he looks like a Banehound.
• Jarvyxx (Formerly Kamyr): An onyx Doberman statue found in Peeve Nomme (the black dragon)’s horde after her demise. Once activated and attuned the tiny carved dog can transmute into a talking canine companion. His last master named him Kamyr which, by his own report, he’s not terribly fond of so Howlynz is going to try out some different names. So far Howlynz has given him permission to stay outside of the statue as long as he’d like. Now the owner of a most fetching collar with a bird skull on it.
