Fortune smiled and Platinum’s Rest is, in fact, home to a Plane Warden outpost and they were agreeable to meeting with me. The trip was both illuminating and frustrating. The Wardens did have records dating back that far and were willing to give me access to at least the portions of it that pertained to my family. Their records confirmed much of what I already knew. The Wardens reached out during Great Grandfather’s reign and contracted House Felsprocket to assist them in the apprehension of the Shadar-Kai druid known as Kirell nul Moman (They-Who-Mediate) who had been attempting to create Sanguine Mortalis in the Blightwood at the behest of another Shadar-Kai known as Zeshes Nal Audothak (She-Who-Authorizes) who was operating on a different plane. Both were approached by the mysterious violet Firbolg who was going by the handle of Amaranth at least at the time. He also, per records, has a radiant blooded eye tattooed on his forehead. Whether that symbols is in any way related to the mysterious organization he represents I can’t say. His organization which is un-documentable was working to apprehend Audothak and he agreed to take Moman into his custody and leave the mortal plane with them as well after the Wardens and my family had helped physically apprehend him. All that, save for a few of the proper names/likely pseudonyms.
This was all confirmed both by payment records for services rendered both to my House and this Amaranth character as well as official teleporter records from the time of transfer. It seems Amaranth and his prisoner teleported from the Harvest Moon teleporter to a classified location (which I’d bet most anything was either Matron Sorrow or Retreating Stars) but they did not go alone. They were escorted on their journey by one Howlynz G. Felsprocket II. This is, in and of itself, not terribly remarkable beyond the fact that my long lost great uncle would seem to be popping up in all sorts of curious places of late. What caught my eye was that Amaranth returned to Zelifryxx a few hours later as one might anticipate but that trip he did make alone. Per the records my dear uncle didn’t return home for a few days. Whether he spent all of that time wherever he and the firbolg took the druid or whether he travelled to another location but was careful to return to Zelifryxx via the teleporter he’d traveled to initially to cover his tracks I can’t say. I can, however, say that I’m damned curious to know what he was up to in that time. I’d need to compare the dates of the letters I found all those years ago and this incident but I’d say this would have been a bit before he’d begun working on his…transition in earnest. Maybe it was nothing or maybe he saw an opportunity to do a bit of research in Shadowfell proper without his father knowing. Hells maybe I’m reading too much into all of this because we share a name and we’re both freaks even by our family’s standards. I’ve also confirmed via multiple sources that he is still “alive” and at least somewhat affiliated with Duke Ranelmor’s people. One of my visions with the dwarf revealed him to be in Blackmill with Daedus. They didn’t seem friendly but they were also clearly working together. Whether his existence has left him in a place where he’s no one to associate with but vampires or whether he’s attempting to get to Ranelmor through his minions for his own purposes is anyone’s guess. I’m very much hoping he doesn’t have any silly notions like trying to take Grim Fandango for himself and reclaim the birthright he walked away from or the like. It would complicate matters greatly and I don’t fancy the idea of going against family no matter how far removed. Still I’m not going to let my uncle or anyone else take what’s mine either. Provided the Hill would even recognize or accept him as its master at this point which is big if, I’ve killed dampiers before and he can’t be that different. Still, it doesn’t mean I hope it doesn’t come to that.
It's funny, though I didn’t mention it to either and I’m sure I was moody and distant on the entire journey back, I’m actually quite thankful that I had Echo and Harahuaith with me when I found this out. It had been ages since I’d gotten to spend any time with either apart from the others so that was nice in and of itself; but the prospect of a potential future conflict with a long lost relation was easier to sit with in the presence of people I’ve come to consider family over this past year and change. I’d lost so much family in the past few years. Both parents and two uncles in the span of a few months alone. I don’t think I realized it at the time but I think that all of my initial desire to keep things distant and professional with Ursula’s Hand may have been overridden by a genuine need for new attachments in my life. I’ve truly come to like these people and think of them as family. Hardly my strangest relations but definitely in good company.
