Appearance
Physical Description
Assam is thin and elegant - typical of an elf. Fifty years of luxury has smoothed away the callouses from life aboard the ship, leaving him with an aristocrat's hands. He is always well maintained, not a strand of hair out of place, and dresses in only the finest of clothes money can afford.
Mentality
Personal history
Assam's parents were trappers, and all three of his siblings joined the family business. But Assam was not well-suited to the life of an outdoorsman. He instead set up a storefront for his family in the nearby village, selling the pelts of the animals they hunted. Living and working a small town, however, also did not suit Assam. He found himself increasingly bored. Assam's life transformed drastically when he met a traveler named Medhavan Stevis. Mehavan was intrigued by Assam's silver tongue, business sense, and thirst for adventure. Almost overnight the two became extremely close and within a week, Assam had decided to leave with Medhavan. His parents, naturally, objected. Assam left anyways, while they were out hunting, taking an entire day's worth of sales with him.
Medhavan called himself a merchant and traveler, however he was more aptly described as a pirate. Assam was swept up into a life of crime, violence, and decadence. For nearly 100 years, the two Elves sailed together, taking what they wanted and making a fortune in the purpose. Assam offered little to ship life but had a way with offloading cargo in secrecy, greasing the right palms, and selling merchandise for much more than it was worth, making him invaluable to Medhavan. But such a lifestyle was dangerous and one night, Medhavan was slain in an attack on a merchant ship.
Confronted with the sudden reality of the situation, Assam took his earnings and left the Piracy life. He now had connections across the world, enough to set up his own, legitimate, merchant enterprise. Striking out on his own, Assam managed quite well. He hired a crew and utilized his keep business sense to trade and sell goods. After another hundred or so years of this, however, Assam once again began to tire of his life on the sea. Constant traveling, eating preserved rations, and living on a boat full of sailors was not the life of luxury Assam wanted. So he stopped in his favorite port city, Isomor, disbanded his crew, and bought a house. Already familiar with the Guilds, and a personal friend of the Tailors' Guild Master, Assam offered to buy out the Merchant Prince and assume control of Guild, himself. The offer was accompanied with a threat - accept the buy out or be forced out.
Education
Assam was never formally educated. He learned to count to work in his parents' shop, and it was Medhavan that taught him to read. He picked up bits and pieces of several languages on his travels and came to understand various cultures.
Morality & Philosophy
Assam believes in a dog-eat-dog world where wealth equals power. He expects no one to treat him with selflessness and offers none in return. That being said, he prefers to persuade with peaceful measures than violence. Why steal something when you can buy it? Why threaten someone when you can befriend them?
Personality
Motivation
Assam is motivated by money and the lifestyle it affords him. He lives his life in pursuit of comforts - delicious food, beautiful art, fashionable clothing - for him these are the things that matter in life. And it is worth doing anything to obtain them.
Virtues & Personality perks
Assam is driven - a man of singular will. He is charismatic and is quick to make friends. He is well spoken and mild mannered - all in all a very pleasant man.
Vices & Personality flaws
