Jacques was born into a life of luxury, he has never wanted for anything and could easily have spent his life living off his family’s wealth.
Growing up he enjoyed the finer things in life; his hobbies ranged from rearing and riding racehorses to sailing the Montaigne Straight. During his more serious moments, he dropped in and out of most of the universities in Buché before growing bored of the scholarly lifestyle and returning to the capital.
While mingling in the courts of Charouse, Jacques discovered a love for the gaudy romance and adventure novels and plays that had become popular; it seemed only fitting for him to tell such tales himself. His knowledge of classics (from the occasional lecture that he paid attention to) and his natural flair for the dramatic meant that his stories become an overwhelming success.
Despite Jacques’ increasing popularity, his family were unimpressed with his success and his lifestyle choices.
Jacques’ father tried recommending that he take up the gentlemanly art of fencing, he even offered to employ some of the greatest swords masters in all of Théah for private tuition but once Jacques had learnt enough of the basics to put on a convincing stage performance he lost all interest in the art.
The same thing happened when his father employed acrobats, athletes, archers and musketeers – Jacques picked up the basics and then grew bored.
