Appearance
Physical Description
Standing 5’9” and weighing merely 110lbs soaking wet in his armour, Arodeyr is scrawny even by Elven standards. His dark brown hair likes to run wild, and it's only kept moderately tamed by a short ponytail, tied together with a couple small young twigs. His ears are far more elf-like than human and his eyes are generally a calming silvery-blue. Typically he would keep himself clean-shaven, however since returning from the Elven Forest he’s let it get away on him a little. Despite not having shaved in a number of days he’s still only sporting some mild stubble, not much more than what a human would grow in a regular day. While there are still traces of brown in his stubble it's noticeably grey, and his hair is also greying around his ears, as well as a little bit on top. Despite the greying hair there are remarkably few lines on his face to betray his age. Braided into his hair from the left temple through to the back of his ponytail is a sprig of mistletoe. Despite never seeming to be changed, it is a dark healthy green colour, as though it was still a part of the larger plant that it was taken from. Despite his people being wood elves, an exceptionally keen observer who knows this history would notice that Arodeyr doesn’t bear any of the characteristic green tones of a wood elf in either his skin or hair.
Arodeyr generally has a happy and mirthful disposition. It’s quite rare to see him not smiling or enjoying himself in some way, and even if he’s not openly smiling his eyes are bright and lit up with their own kind of smile. However, since returning from the Elven Forests he’s starting to look more and more haggard, as though something is constantly nagging in his mind.
Apparel & Accessories
Having come from a slightly cooler climate, due to the consistent foliage coverage of his home, Arodeyr dresses in layers, with the outer ones often obscuring the ones beneath. The innermost layer is an old, flowy white shirt, much like the ones a swashbuckling duelist would wear. It’s faded with age, and stained with what can be assumed is blood. It’s also clearly been mended a number of times. Notably, it also bears an embroidered symbol of a stylized flower, both on the left side of the chest, and a larger one taking up the back. However both of these are heavily obscured by the armour worn overtop and wouldn’t be noticed unless the armour was removed. Above the white shirt is a tight fitting piece of hardened leather armour. Much like the shirt below it is also stained, although the dark brown colour hides most of the stains. It covers his entire torso and has thin shoulder pauldrons that drape roughly half-way down his biceps. The armour is simple, and doesn’t have any symbols or adornments.
Above the armour Arodeyr wears a dark forest green shirt. It's loose and flowing, often being caught in the wind. While this shirt would typically obscure his armour, any slight breeze that pushes the shirt reveals the tell-tale straps of the armour beneath it. Along the right shoulder, as well as down the back and chest, the shirt is embroidered with what appear to be, from a distance, golden leaves and vines. However, upon closer inspection the embroidery is neither golden, nor thread, but actually thin pieces of some sort of light brown grass that’s been woven into the fabric. Despite both the white and green shirts having arm length sleeves, both shirts have the sleeves rolled up just past the elbow due to the warmer climate that Arodeyr hasn’t quite adjusted to yet. Along with his shirt he also wears a loosely hanging red scarf that drapes over his left shoulder.
His pants are a simple, generic pair of non-descript earth-brown pants. He’ll often bemoan the lack of utility that they provide, however the leather belt that holds them up contains a couple small pouches and a dagger sheathed on his left hip. Much like the rest of his clothing, both the belt and his pants show obvious signs of previous mending and are faded and threadbare. The bottom of his pants, from about halfway up his shins are tucked into dark green boots that also have obvious signs of wear. Most notably about the boots is the fact that they include both laces, as well as three outer buckles on top of the laces. On the outside of each boot, near the heel is another small stylized flower, however it's often obscured by mud or dust from the roads.
Arodeyr’s explorer’s pack is fashioned in the Hillatian style with two straps going over the shoulders, two straps coming under the arms, and two straps coming up from the bottom, all meeting at a single clasp in the center of his chest, with the entire backpack closely hugging his body. It’s obvious that this item is the newest thing that he is wearing as it doesn’t have the same faded, threadbare appearance of the rest of his clothes. Strapped to the back of the knapsack, and angled slightly towards his left is his shield, which is made up of two large pieces of thick tree bark, held together by, oddly enough, two iron bands. One near the top and the other near the bottom. The wood is quite old and weathered, being almost grey in some spots, and there are two very deep parallel gashes going from the top left to the bottom right side of the shield, behind the iron bands. Strapped to the right side of his backpack are some dried herbs.
In his right hand, Arodeyr always carries his trusty quarterstaff, which he’ll often use like a walking stick. It’s also worth noting that any time Arodeyer is about to make a witty comment, or is in an uncomfortable situation he’ll lean against the staff as though it’s supporting him and crack a sly grin. The quarterstaff is a light coloured wood, and seems fashioned, rather than simply being a stick picked up from the ground. Both ends are stained brown-grey from years of the mud and dirt of the many roads that Arodeyr has travelled. The center of the staff is wrapped with a thin white strip of fabric, and carved into it is a small oval cavity. Inside are two shamrock leaves, one a typical three leaf clover, and the other a four leaf clover, both with their stems entwined and cast into a small rounded jewel of amber. While it would normally take many years for the amber to form like this, to a keen eye there are tell-tale signs that it was magically aged to turn from regular tree sap into the hardened amber.
Special abilities
When casting any spells that contain a somatic component light wisps of coloured smoke can be seen swirling around Arodeyr’s hand. His normally silvery-blue eyes will also change colour, and someone paying close attention might notice that the mistletoe braided into his hair will also glow faintly, matching the colour of both his irises and the faint smoke surrounding his hand. A young wizard that Arodeyr once travelled with noticed this phenomenon first. He remarked that he expected the colours to follow the different schools of magic from which Arodeyr would cast his spells, however that didn’t seem to be the case. It baffled him that there were no discernible patterns to the colours that he saw, except that they were always consistent to the spells. While the colour usually fades once the spell has been cast, when Arodeyr is concentrating on a spell the mistletoe, but not his eyes, remains glowing until his focus is lost.
Whenever Arodeyr enters into a fight and asks for the strength of nature to be channeled through his quarterstaff a green light will flash from the shamrocks encased in amber, and bright green vines and shamrocks start to glow along the length of the staff, remaining until the spell ends.
