The Cemetery and Consequences
Cramped, but precise handwriting covers the following pages.
The majority of Folksong's magic still eludes me. One day, a simple, functional light spell fits exactly within the equations. Energy input directly correlates to resulting luminescence along the curve laid out by Bohuslav's principle. Then the next day, it the illumination provided by the spell is constant, regardless of energy input. The third day, the relationship stands in direct contradiction to Bohuslav's illumination curve and the less energy input into the spell, the more intense the resulting glow. It makes no sense.
Yet, it seems that I'm gaining some intuition for it. With the diversion we took to The Cemetery, I've managed to piece a pair of new spells together.
Collapse the Multitude
After witnessing Ento's transformation while during the encounter with the Widows, I was inspired by the Vincze-Lahtinen laws of decoherence. In overcoming and absorbing the other incarnation of the other Ento's mourning, hereafter named Ento-Prime, our Ento was able to take on aspects of Ento-Prime's life, including memories and physical characteristics (ex: scars, muscle memory, etc).
Based on this observation, I theorized that any creature existing in a superposition state, could be induced to settle upon one of those classical states by an application of magical energy. The following diagrams (Figures 1-3) illustrate the flow of magical energy (I really need to find a name for this) required, the accompanying equations describe the operation being executed. Finally, the overwrite location in The Code, including acceptable values, can be found in Figure 4.
<What might otherwise be considered a circuit diagram resides here. With strange, alchemical glyphs replacing more traditional circuit symbology>
<Possibly a diagram of a fingerprint, whirlpool, or other spiral rests here, all lines leading from the outside edges to a single point, offset slightly to the left and up from center.>
<This diagram seems to be a flow-chart of sorts combining Fig.s 1 and 2, jumping from the clean, orderly lines of the circuit diagram to the organic whorls and back. All carefully annotated with arcane equations.>
Resurrection(?)
Upon Ento's coup de grâce, ending the Duchess of Bone, her body disintegrated into ashes. However, I noticed that the manner of their fall and the pattern into which they settled was, in itself, an energy diagram for a spell. I hurriedly copied it into these very pages (see below Fig 5). Upon further analysis, this seems to be a resurrection ritual. An ingenious creation, the revived subject will be safely recreated with no corpse needed to reintegrate spirit to flesh. However, there seem to be some inefficiencies or, perhaps more correctly, some inaccuracies. I would expect some slight error compounding during revivification. This could yield slight personality changes. Additionally, I believe the spell form itself is unstable and will only work a single time before the world rejects the magic and forces a new pattern to be discovered.
<A series of repeating, bulbous shapes covers the figure area, each smaller than the last. Overlaid upon it all are a series of lines, seeming at random, but that seem to redirect any dead-ends back into the repeating pattern.>
I am loathe to even include the latter given that the very act of using the spell renders it's future applications obsolete, but I must persevere under the hope that diligence will eventually lead to discovery of the missing laws to allow sanity in Folksong's magic.
