Early Life

As Hamelyn was gregarious and took a shine to strangers easily -- and as it gave him an excuse to bring out the good wine after dinner under the guise of hospitality -- he would often invite travelers to spend the night in his home. Gerinia approved of this as it would raise their family's standing and reputation for hospitality. Thus, the family would spend most evenings listening to travelers recount the news from across the kingdom and their personal adventures from the road.

60 V. - 8 T.58, Wielun, V purchases three horses and commissions better weapons. G visits Hadeln.

13-30 T.58, Kholm, gwythaints harassing villagers when they leave the village. (V seems annoyed, People in Kholm very familiar with him.)

42-62 T.58, Szepes Glen, missing child's skeleton found picked clean, unsuccessful at finding culprit

70-80 T.58, Brabant, G and V kill an overly aggressive and unusually destructive wolf-drake

84 T.58, one of the horses (V’s mount) is slain and left eviscerated but untouched next to the terrified other horses

6-30 C.58, Minden, V is ill. G visits his brother in Illinsk, his grandparents in Eglin, then returns home for most of the winter.

10 A.59, G meets V in Minden

20-50 A.59, Pechenegs, knuckers waking from brumation are resulting in lots of small animals going missing and a couple close calls with children. After that, V remains to investigate (fruitlessly) if there might be a lake serpent.

(Something attacks the horses one night, but the tether breaks and the horses outrun the attacker. V is increasingly unsettled and institutes watches at night.)

48 V. - 30 T.59, Teisterbant, wolf-drake lingering in area and growing too reliant on livestock, horse care, weapons repair

(V makes a point of returning to Paderborn and taking the ferry to Pieradz, rather than crossing the bridge. They briefly visit G's uncle in Chremis.)

Education

Received a basic education from the mothers and grandmothers within Hadeln.
 
Received basic military training for one year during conscription in Toropets, learning how to eat, pack, march, form formation, understand and carry out orders, how to clean weapons, and use a calvary sword. In his second year, he was tapped for light calvary as a screening force. He was trained in cartography.

Employment

Worked as a shepherd tending other people's flocks. This involved driving gwythaints away.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Killed a lesser wyvern with a sling while it was eating a couple sheep, although the local joke was that it choked instead. The hide was given to the sheep's owner, but Galin got to keep the claws and a sling made from the patagium.

Failures & Embarrassments

As the middle son of a family that is considered "weak roots," his status is rather low. The loss of his wife before the marriage was even consummated and before any children were produced has placed a stigma of "bad luck" on his family, and will prevent him from finding a second match, as well as presenting a hurdle to the rest of his unmarried siblings in finding a match of their own.

Intellectual Characteristics

Observant of his surroundings, especially possible sources of ambush, watches his feet, but tends to ignore people in favor of things on the outskirts.
 
An eye for distances, a good memory of landmarks, can draw.

Motivation

While he tells himself he is motivated only by the ideal of bettering his family's situation, Galin is nettled by people's tendency to dismiss and overlook him. He's primarily motivated by a desire to be seen by those around him as educated, and thus eagerly consumes and catalogues information that comes his way. He also is ambitious in his career, and interested in opportunities for monetary gain.
