Personal history
Amalie Noire was born to a small, poor family in the Tumbledown of Balder's gate. It was a place riddled with extensive crime. Amalie showed great interest in music and showed innate arcane talent. Amalie's single mother worked three jobs to try and provide the best life she could for Amalie and hopefully save enough money to send her to a bardic college.
When Amalie was but just the age of 9, the small home that she and her mother stayed in was broken into by a group of thieves in the middle of the night. All the coin that her mother had managed to save for her was taken. Struck by grief, her mother fell into a deep depression. She refused to work or eat. Amalie tried to look after her and take care of the home. One day, Amalie's mother left without notice for the Church of Last Hope to receive their famed "ritual of reverie". Amalie's mother was never heard from again.
Due to her mother's disappearance, Amalie ran away from home to become a soldier so that if anyone tries to threaten her or her home again, she could be strong enough to defend herself. First, she attempted to enlist to be a part of the Flaming Fist mercenary company but was rejected because of her young age and small size. She then tried to join the Order of the Red Falcon at the Citadel of Strategic Militancy, which also refused her.
Despite being rejected by the Order of the Red Falcon, Amalie stubbornly tagged along anyway and the order eventually adopted her as a mascot and drummer girl. Two years later, at the age of 11, she became officially enlisted as a page under the watch of Knight-Captain Louis Aguillard. Knight-Captain Louis Aguillard taught her how to signal his commands through her drumming, how to care for equipment, and about the teachings of the red knight. He presented himself as a father figure for her and cared deeply for her.
At the age of 12, in a fight against a band of gnolls, Amalie came very near to losing her life when an arrow crashed through her drum, breaking her hip, and knocking her unconscious for several hours. Her fellow soldiers on the battlefield, along with Knight-Captain Louis Aguillard, found her and managed to rescue her from the battlefield.
While in the act of protecting and rescuing Amalie, Knight-Captain Louis Aguillard was chased down and killed. In a miraculous series of unintentional events, divine intervention, and sheer force of will, Knight-Captain Louis Aguillard's spirit bound itself to Amalie's physical form, causing the two to share a body.
From that point, with Knight-Captain Louis Aguillard guiding her, she managed to surge in ranks. In one combat when she was the age of 16, a group of other soldiers and she managed to get split apart from their leading officers by a wall of stone. Amalie took her drum and with the aid of the Knight-Captain Louis Aguillard, managed to make a series of key decisions to command and lead the small group to safety and victory.
At the age of 18, after 9 years of service, her fellow soldiers chipped in to help her attend the Red War College so that she could properly learn how to command and fight instead of just being a drummer girl. She was gifted with Knight-Captain Louis Aguillard's old armor and sword, which she later had adjusted to fit herself better.
Due to her injury to her hip at the age of 12 and the improper healing of the bone, she was left with a heavy limp and the inability to carry much weight on her own. While she was taught how to use armor and use a sword, her injuries made it incredibly difficult for her to fight in martial combat. However, thanks to her inspiring leadership, skill as a drummer, and incredible story, she became a natural bard and spellcaster. She still keeps Knight-Captain Louis Aguillard's sword on her due to sentimental reasons, despite barely ever using it.
At the age of 25, Amalie graduated with high honors and properly joined the Order of the Red Falcon as a knight. She continued to serve for 4 more years before deciding to travel to Driftriver to further hone her skills and gain experience against a larger range of enemies.
