Black Claw entry: Steepletop Copper Claim
There I was sitting at the local tavern in Raggedbend with newfound adventureres. How exciting.
⦁ There was a half-orc named Zug, seems a bit "thick" but definitely someone who would sacrifice their own life to save yours if I can earn his friendship.
⦁ Rontar Feldrak - a cleric of the forge, worshipper of something blah blah. Seems to have a problem with laxatives, but overall seems like another worthwhile ally to have. Apparently got caught in a magical snow storm - must have been in the mountains.
⦁ Saint Urbain - Another cleric of some other god or being. How many types of clerics are there? Very serious guy. Zug "accidentally" hit him in the back of the head with a stone. He was not pleased.
⦁ Talia Ureten - A warlock. I don't trusts warlocks. The whole pact with a being from another plane. I know I gained my powers in a similar fashion, but that was accidental!
We had gathered here for a recruitment ad posted by Cookie Beams, the head of the local Black Claw chapter. She seemed like a busy person. I guess that's what happens when your "head" of an organisation, and that's just at a local level!
She offered us access to the local Black Claw chapter and 20 gold pieces each if we could complete an assignment posted by some Mining Guild rep called Seraphina Sapphire. Apparently she bought a copper claim which was infested by slimes. Sounds silly to me, but I don't know much about business.
Anyhow, off we went. So much walking... by the gods I miss transport, my poor feet. Near the mine we met some of the miners who at worked there. We talked to Eric who asked if we could find another miner called Kevin. According to my calculations, Kevin had a 5.678% chance of survival. The odds were not in his favour. Which turned out to be true as we found his slime covered skeleton later on. Unlucky? There was a dwarven miner called Debbie who seemed to quickly get into an arguement with Talia over her undergarments. Strange subject to argue over - must be a warlock thing. Does she have a pact with the patron of otherwordly undergarments? Haha!
We carried on and found the mine. Talia of course found Debbie's personal chest and forced it open. It had been boopy-trapped and Talia got a good electrical shock, her hair was a mess. I think Talia did end up finding Debbie's undergarments, good for her I guess.
We were greeted by an elevator which would take us down the mine. I must say, one of the greatest inventions of our time. We should get rid of all staircases. I thought I'd explain to Zug how it worked - however he seemed to already know quiet a fair amount. Maybe he's not a simple as he looks. Possibly not very eloquent. Shouldn't underestimate him.
We progressed through the mine, killing slime after slime. They were disguised as "wet rocks". I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. I'm glad I didn't come here alone. There wasn't really anything of interest until we reached the deeper end. I did found some sort of journal. There were no diagrams, just endless pages of text. So I threw it into a fire.
Eventually after some "drama", Urbain getting hit in the back of the head by a stone Zug threw by "accident" we fought the last of the slimes and found Kevin. As mentioned before we know what happened. A fate I would not wish anyone to experience. Anyways not really that important - we did find the potential source of the slimes. An opening had been dug out in the side wall where we found a hallway with purple glowing jars. We believe the slimes originated from said jars. At the end of the hallway there was as stone double door. Zug tried to brute force it open to no avail. I kept encouraging him as this was very comical to watch. We eventually got the door open but the otherside had been caved in. There was a high probability that there would be more slimes or something far more dangerous. Better we didn't venture deeper.
With a clear dead end we made our way out the mine. Told the miners about Kevin's fate and headed back to Raggedbend. Cookie tried to con us by stating that the payment was only 5 GP. Luckily Zug reminded her that we had agreed on 20 GP each! Everyone is so sleazy these days. With a succesfuly mission, we earned our way into the Black Claw. I write this journal whilst eating the towns best ale pie, life is good.
