As a Tattooed monk: Yumi’s Tattoos are of the Mountain terrain, as well as that of the goat/antelope-like animals called “kamoshika“ (Japanese Serow) who live among the mountains.

Apparel & Accessories

Yumi has always worn the temple Hakama. Her time spent in the walls and halls while acting Oracle; she had always worn what was expected of her. However, now Yumi has branched out a bit, to floral embroidered garments. Those reflecting nature are her favorite. Still remaining in the colors of the Dragon Clan. Even departing the temple she continues to wear her Hakama.

Personal history

Yumi grew up in the Dragon Clan; Tucked away in the Mountains where she enjoyed nature and time spent daydreaming. Her parents considered her very lazy, and often told her as much. She was the oldest of two girls. Her younger sister Hiromi was far more favored by her parents; and her mother would often compare them with the intent to try to encourage Yumi to align her behavior with her sisters.
 
This didn’t bother Yumi too much, as she was close with her sister and they weathered their childhood with comradery. She did find even greater acceptance and love when she met a young man named Fujio of the Dragon Clan. He was a simple man, but had a great passion for his work. A stone smith and wood carver. His work was beautiful and Yumi found his stoic kindness appealing.
 
They quickly got married and started a family; A girl named Kayo; and later a boy they named Takashi.
 
Life seemed easy and Yumi was happy. Until the dreams started. Visions of prophecy that began abruptly and consumed her mind and dreams. It was in this that her parents finally found Yumi to be of worth. Her visions were taken seriously, and so too was she.
 
Making the difficult choice, Yumi left her family behind and made her way to the temple to be mentored and tutored; her standing in the community growing as her work as an Oracle placed her in circles of influence.
 
A short time later, Yumi’s sister Heromi also began training as a Tatooed monk, and living at the temple as well. Heromi’s spare time led her to managing libraries, ledgers, maps and the like. She grew in knowledge outside the boarders of the Dragon Clan and would share lively discussions and debates with Yumi. Although separated from her husband and kids, Heromi always had her side, always encouraged her.
 
There was a lot she had given up. At the age of 24 - leaving her husband and kids was something she thought of shamefully often. But her duty to her visions compelled her to remain; and her sister’s kindness helped soften that guilt to a degree. Her visits to her family were infrequent and often tense.
 
In this fashion, Yumi spent 58 years in service as an Oracle; till one day the visions stopped. Abruptly and without warning she had become useless to the appointment she had served. Languishing in a horrified need to remain useful, Yumi sought out instead the way of a warrior to become of use again. Training with her sister to also become a Tattooed monk. Even now at the age of 70, she is determined.

Education

Mentored and tutored in the Temple in the ways of being an Oracle; then later trained to be a Tattooed Monk from her Sister Heromi. Holds little knowledge of the world outside the Dragon Clan’s Mountains. But has always been fascinated by the outside world.

Employment

Worked in the Temple as an Oracle of regard and revere.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Her appointment as an Oracle. Particularly notable in the fact that one such important vision about an assassination attempt, this vision saved a high official in the Crane Clan. As a result her renown was guarded and protected by those in the know.

Failures & Embarrassments

Her failure to be a present and attentive wife and mother. She now is trying to make up for lost time.

Mental Trauma

Yumi’s Parents weren’t particularly supportive to her till she got her visions and became useful and important. This causes Yumi to seek out a new way of being seen as helpful and valid in order to retain respect and affection.
 
Her neglect of her family causes Yumi a lot of guilt and shame in how she wasn’t there for them. Particularly as it affected her relationship with her children and grandchildren.

Curious about the world; but sheltered in her life, she has no real world application for the facts she had accumulated through books and stories.
