Mentality
Personal history
Born in the Lanterne family mansion, the young girl lived a highly managed, constantly busy lifestyle. Or did she?
Education
Home schooled by her governess until fourteen. By age twelve, though, she had begun reading about medicine and anatomy. She learned to paint under the reputable artist Prospero Fidel as an excuse to study the human body. By fourteen, it was clear the governess couldn't keep up. Gregoria continued to instruct her on etiquette, manners, and other such things as she began instruction at the academy in Corinthia. She learned under several prestigious scholars, and even took combat lessons on the side at the Brasia Mansion in Corinthia. Cori accompanied her father, uncle, or mother on various trips across the kingdom, and as a result she has stepped foot in every major city at least once and can recognize and identify most landed nobility. Or did she?

Retainers
Phillip Grass
Small but dignified, Phillip has been serving the young lady Cordelia since she was seven, although his role has changed over the years. Originally an assistant to her nanny, Philip dedicated himself to the task of raising a sophisticated and tasteful young lady with all of his being. While it is uncommon to grant such responsibilities to a halfling, Phillip proved himself when Cori's carriage slipped off of the road during a thunderstorm, crashing into a roaring river. Phillip’s sure-footed maneuvering and quick thinking was likely the only reason they were able to make it out alive, as the driver and nanny were barely able to pull themselves from the sinking wreckage. Cori is every bit as loyal to Philip as he is to her; while the memory is a blur, she wouldn’t be alive if not for her loyal retainer. Phillip
is trusted enough to handle Cori's own money, and even the bank will accept deposits or withdrawals by him on her account.
Gregoria Smith
Originally Cordelia’s governess, Gregoria’s responsibility is to keep Cori's room in perfect shape, dress and bathe her, manage her hair and makeup, adjust her diet as needed, correct any errors in etiquette, and make sure any illness or injury is treated properly. While some of these tasks are out of her own skill set, the responsibility falls on her to make sure the job gets done in a timely fashion and without error. Gregoria is straightforward and specific. She says what she means and means what she says, only offering trivialities such as nuance when etiquette absolutely mandates it.
Dan
Strong and tall, quiet and friendly, Cordelia finds Dan to be an untapped kindred soul. Smarter than he looks but lacking in education, dan was originally look after Cori’s animals and to run simple errands, but in secret she teaches him to read and write, history, medicine, and so on.
Trainers
Prospero Fidel
A foreign artist with a long, highly successful career, Prospero first made waves with his pioneering of the strong, high-contrast Chiaroscuro style. Over the years he gained some fascination with the human form, an emphasis that disgruntled more conservative critics. Prospero taught a young Cordelia to paint, and occasionally visits to make a portait for her or one of her family members.
Hubrecht Corona
Coming from a lesser branch of a large noble family, Hubrecht first comes off as disheveled and air-headed. His hair is unkempt and sloppy, his face rarely properly shaved, and his once-fashionable clothing typically worn suggesting a man of former wealth. Hubrecht had little immediate responsibility placed upon him despite a nebulous urge to be successful and productive. Intent on being a good son, he focused all of his energy into academics, and indeed performed quite well. By the time he was finished with his studies, though, he found a rift had grown between himself and his family, as his parents were largely preoccupied with ushering his older brother into managing their properties. Rather than stir up family politics, Hubrecht came up with the idea to "further his studies" by going on a pilgrimage across the country to study under a variety of different accomplished scholars. Not particularly interested in going home, he made every attempt to slow his own progress down as much as possible; overstaying in small villages and missing boats, whatever he could manage to extend his adventure. After five years of travel, Hubrecht finally found himself returning to an even more irate household. Rumors of him teaching peasants to read, offering free medical assistance to the poor, helping out with criminal investigations, fornicating with animals (a gross misrepresentation of the true story, of course) and stomping through swamps or climbing mountains to collect samples or see fantastic sights had circulated. Hubrecht was supposed to be studying under the finest minds in the kingdom, but instead he seemed to have simply done as he liked, adventuring and catching butterflies on a whim. Their protests were silenced, however, when Hubrecht started publishing academic manuscripts and journals. The works he wrote on his journey were groundbreaking, well-written, and easy to understand. He ended up moving into the academy to teach full-time, and sends most of his spare money to support medical or academic institutions in smaller cities. Many of his texts are used in educating alchemists, physicians, herbalists, and the like. Cordelia took lessons under this nationally famous scholar, who saw her as a kindred spirit; albeit a far more neat and tidy one.
Patricia Kindle
Cordelia's close childhood friend, they've known each-other since they were infants and still occasionally get together. Their friendship went through a difficult time when they were teens. Cori went through a time of being legalistic and cold, and during that time she hurt Patricia's feelings without even realizing it for some time. Though they eventually worked it out, Cori still fears that Patricia holds it against her.

Wealth & Financial state
As the fourth child of Ulric Lanterne, duke of Kos, Cori is used to a life of exuberant luxury.
Family Ties
Lanterne Family
Ulric Lanterne
Ulric Lanterne is the head of the Lanterne family, ruling his neck of the country as if it were his own kingdom. There are few who could call him a peer, just as there are few who would want to count him as an enemy. Recently celebrating his fifty-fifth birthday, Ulric may be past his prime, but never misses a beat. Slowly but surely, he expands his domain, makes allies, and squashes his enemies. Most consider him a to be a fair man, but those on the wrong side of the law tend to see him less favorably. Ulric is surprisingly conservative for a man of such affluence, going so far as to suggest downsizing the templar in favor of bolstering conventional security measures. Though not oblivious to the threat of magical forces, Ulric believes more could be done to prevent such threats before they grow to begin with. As Ulric was not entirely enthusiastic about Cori’s or Mathilda’s pursuits, there is some tension in both relationships, though they are not openly hostile. For Cori, there is a simple arrangement: When acting as a lady, Cordelia acts as a lady. When acting as a templar, she acts as a templar. In practice, this means cordelia mainly only receives financial assistance when doing lady-like things. In addition, servants have been told not to let her use the carriages or horses unless she is dressed properly or invited.
Mathilda Brasia-Lanterne
Mathilda Brasia-Lanterne is the estranged wife of Ulric Lanterne and first daughter of Malcolm Brasia. Her younger brother came first in the order of succession for the lordship of the Brasia estate, but Mathilda in fact found the arrangement highly convenient. She found the management of such things tedious and unfulfilling. Instead, she dedicated herself to the pursuit of martial mastery, honing body and mind with the intent of one day becoming high martial in command of the king’s army. Through various setbacks and accomplishments, Mathilda remains tantalizingly close to her lifelong goal, and is entirely devoted to furthering her career. Currently she lives in the city at her brother’s mansion; any affection she once had for Ulric has largely been replaced with frustration at the growing difference in their respective ways of doing things.
Brandon Lanterne
Brandon Lanterne is the first son of Ulric Lanterne, and the named heir to his estate. A respected state alchemist, Brandon has made numerous contributions to the field and currently manages a small university-town he established on his father’s land, expanding the already existing facility for growing climate-sensitive herbs in a controlled environment. An innovator, a teacher, and a renowned kind soul, Brandon is loved by the people and appreciated by the nobility; his breakthroughs or the breakthroughs of his university have saved the lives of many lost causes as well as contributed to everyday conveniences. Though presently unmarried, Brandon has reluctantly promised his father that he will pick a spouse from the list of worthy ladies within the next nine months. Unfortunately for the “lucky” girl, despite being a compassionate person, Brandon is incapable of truly loving anything other than his work. Cori learned a great deal from her oldest brother, primarily relating to alchemy but also embellished stories of magic and mythical creatures that sparked her interest in protecting smallolk from the machinations of evil beasts and wizards. Daniel has little to do with his mother, seeing her as overly militaristic and near-sighted, though he knows better than to say it to her face.
Daniel Lanterne
The second son of Ulric and Mathilda, Daniel is seemingly somewhat more aloof than his older brother. While he does show a similar enthusiasm, his energy is directed more on himself. Practically bursting with ego, Daniel is obsessed with appearances, both physical and social. It would be a foolish mistake to assume he was a push-over, though. In his efforts to gain praise, Daniel has won multiple tournaments and even participated in real military excursions. Many of his supporters believe he would be the better choice for heir to the Lanterne barony, but Ulric has shown no sign of budging. Daniel tends to follow the action, ever-present at events across the kingdom to show his knightly virtues, his martial prowess, and his fine mastery of the common language.
Gossiping nobles often talk of the time he roped his sister Amanda into joining him on the stage for the final scene of a play. Cleverly orchestrated to play to his strengths and her weaknesses, it became widely known as first and last time Amanda ever found herself upstaged in a public setting.
Amanda Lanterne
Jaw-droppingly gorgeous and silver-tongued, Amanda may very well be one of the most fought over women in the kingdom. Well-groomed knights in shining armor pursue her night and day, showering her in praise and gifts whenever socially acceptable. Whenever someone does step out of line, an impenetrable wall of jealous suitors will form without even being asked for. A man attempting to approach Amanda without proper manners can expect to be challenged to a duel or, if unprotected by social standing, beat up in an alleyway by hired thugs after being thrown out of the event. Amanda widely considered a kind and fair lady; at the worst, offering well-veiled insults founded in truth. It’s been said that Amanda and plainness cannot exist in the same room, and while this is obviously hyperbole, it is true that whether male or female, she is typically surrounded by attractive people who merely serve to demonstrate her splendor. While Amanda has little to do with the scientific pursuits of Brandon, Cori, or Fredrick, her education is not to be scoffed at. Even if she pretends not to recognize someone, she knows the name, properties, and accomplishments of anyone in the kingdom worth mentioning, and the vast majority of important figures throughout the continent.
Despite their differences, Cori and Amanda have a surprisingly good relationship, and occasionally write to each other about interesting things going on in their lives. Amanda has once been encountered by Logan, though at the time he may have assumed her to be a sibling. When first allowed into his family home, he would have briefly caught a glance of Amanda as she was speaking with his eldest brother in the garden. Amanda is always shopping around for the best possible spouse, entertaining fancies and testing men, but patiently plays the long game seeking the best possible arrangement. Amanda is far more connected to her father than her mother, primarily living in the Lanterne mansion while attending banquets and balls across the country. She frequently visits Corinthia, but rarely for longer than a week or two, preferring to leave her suitors thirsty.
Cordelia Lanterne
Perhaps out of naivety, perhaps out of good nature, Cori does her best to stay in good graces with her entire family. While this does mean a certain degree of friction is unavoidable with everyone, her gentle and unassuming nature has allowed her accrue goodwill across the board. Cordelia is known for being the early-born runt of the family; despite being fourth born, even her youngest brother, Fredrick, stands three inches over her despite being six years younger. Straight-laced and honest with anyone but herself, Cori struggles to do right by her family while chasing her own dreams of becoming a templar, bettering the country, and keeping the people safe from the things that go bump in the night. Though gets a certain quiet satisfaction from being doted on or praised, Cori doesn’t share her sister’s fondness of a crowd; a trait that actually helps them to get along better. At social events she frequently uses her sisters as cover while she chats up an interesting fellow on the sidelines, preferring the ease and calm of a conversation without subtext to the multi-layered and nuanced discussions of her sisters.
Elizabeth Lanterne
While taking after her oldest sister, Elizabeth is frustrated by having to deal with the long shadow Amanda casts. Despite getting no small amount of attention, Elizabeth is consumed by jealousy for anything she is denied. She gets along well enough with Cori, who is often regarded as the least striking of the three sisters, so long as they don’t have a conflict of interest. Elizabeth isn’t above spreading rumors or pulling pranks on her sisters, though she is typically quite careful of preserving her public reputation as an angelic, innocent seventeen-year-old lady incapable of harming a fly.
Elizabeth maintains a strongly held conviction that a true lady does not create, she curates. In keeping with that conviction, she studies art, architecture, gardening, music, poetry, and most important to Cordelia, stories. Whether fact or fiction, the young heiress loves to be wowed with a fantastic tale, and so the two typically write each other with rumors or tales the other might be interested in.
Frederick Lanterne
The youngest of the Lanterne siblings, Frederick carries a chip on his shoulder about being in the shadow of his brothers but handles it somewhat more productively than Elizabeth. Frederick doesn’t like being being on the same playing field as his brothers, and so he gravitates to innovative and creative approaches to old problems. Frederick may be only fourteen years old, but he has already shown talent in command, engineering, and logistics. Frederick is still working on his
Brasia Family
Gordon Brasia
Gordon is the patriarch de jure of the Brasia family, though his older sister, Mathilda, is often seen as being the one in charge. Gordon dutifully and effectively manages their properties and staff like a well-oiled machine, but the political clout and accomplishments of his sister overshadow his own less-than-stellar military career. Gordon was once rescued from a dangerous situation by his sister, and believes he owes her a life debt that remains unpaid. Despite his poor military reputation, it would be foolish to mistake him for an amateur in one-on-one or in command. He was never terrible, and has learned a great deal from his costly mistakes, and understands more than anyone the the meaning of the phrase “death by a thousand cuts.”
Religious Views
Cori is a firm believer of the church and frequently makes offerings out of her personal wealth. She is a firm believer that although we are flawed, there is beauty in all non-magic life. On the other hand, she views the elimination of corrupted beings as both a mercy to the corrupted and a blessing to the pure.
Hobbies & Pets
Though she only personally owns two horses, the Brasia and Lanterne families have a great many pets and animals.
Two dozen horses and seventy dogs of various breeds are kept at the Lanterne estate, and about half as many can be found around the more compact Brasia mansion in Corinthia.
