Aethelas was taken in as an orphaned baby by the
Church of Ellisea and brought to
Tir Ar'ides, where he was raised along with several other orphans in the
Temple of Ellisea.
Meara Silvershard, the
Sword Dancer of Ellisea told him that both his parents had escaped from a drow underground city and had died at the hands of assassins and that aside from having the last name of
'Du Flos', she knows nothing more of his past.
Aethelas skill in swordsmanship quickly made him shine among his peers, but the young drow's heart was filled with restlessness as he spent days and hours in the library of the Dell; reading about the world, the sea, the mountains and the cities above and below the surface fueled his wonderlust.
At his time in the temple, among other refugees Aethelas also met and befriended an aged blind drow, a former slave from
Shadara named
Arinas Sehharan. Upon hearing the old drow playing a harp Aethelas was entranced by his music and asked to be taught. Sehharan eventually taught him to play the dulcimer and an odd musical instrument named "Qin".
On midnight of the 15th of Midwin 1565, the
Singing Sword, one of the holiest artifacts of the Church of Eilistraee, was
stolen. The Church approached the local duke for help but he could not spare any of his men to aid in the task, as all of his levies were already taken to fight in the
rebelion.
With no other option, Meara went to the
Pacificatores for help, the organiztion served her well before, but their price would be steep. Indeed, knowing the church has little in coin, the Pacificatores suggested a trade: The church would send one of their own to serve in the organiztion for 25 years as an agent, and in return they would help the agent to retrieve the relic by himself to ensure justice is delivered.
Despite voicing concerns before, Meara quickly set up the deal with the Pacificatores, and tasked Aethelas' with the retrieval of the blade, by whatever means necessary. With that command, she also implored him to honor the codes they follow.
At 107 years old, barely an adult by
elven standards, Aethelas is sent for a year long
basic training in the
The Twins. His former practice with swords alongside the
Sword Dancers of Ellisea have proven useful and he once again shone bright among the other recruits. As a reward for his skill, he was selected for the
Pax Venatores trials. He passed the grusome trails and test with great effort. Being a skilled swordman was not enough, he had to think quickly and act smart, but he passed nonetheless.
Aethelas quickly discovered that the fame and respect the pax venatores receive within the Pacificatores is very well justified. While his friends finished their training in the Twins and were sent back to the mainland for peacekeeping and law enforcement, he would continue on for another year of brutal, sometimes life threatening training.
For his first assignment he was tasked together with a company of Pacificatores sent to combat slavers in the
Eastern Freelands. He would stalk the outlaws through the nights, striking from the shadows with his squad and take those who surender for questioning. After a full year of assults and arrests, the entire slavery ring was either behind bars or dead. The time to celebrate was short though as he was soon deployed again, this time to
Caeris.
In Caeris, he is to meet with
Captain Varrik Raymond, who requires assistance with an ongoing
fey dust smuggling investigation. Furthermore, he also recieved his first lead on the singing sword; A businessman by the name of
Morris Volderiano has repotedly expressed interest in procuring the blade and word reach several of the organization's informants.
