It had been a long night, and Arkadius had been fast asleep for most of it having worked hard for the majority of the day. He was joined by Ida the fiendish weasel familiar, sleeping soundly resting on the pillow near his shoulder. Arkadius had admitted on the second night that it felt weird her cuddling in close there, but Ida then admitted she felt comfortable being there. He wasn't going to begrudge her that, given what was to happen in the near future. They both shared the thought that comfort came above anything else at the moment. They both shared most thoughts, given the telepathic link.
The tavern disappeared in a flash of red light, blinding Arkadius. All he could see was red, and the light flicking about directly in his eyes. They slowly adjusted, and as his gaze adjusted something started flicking among the threads of red light, the threads slowly entwining at times to become unclear images, over time becoming clearer and clearer. It filled Arkadius with feelings of hope, power and success. The images showed... they flicked by far too quickly for any kind of recognition, but the feeling of power kept growing within him. After a few moments, the feeling stopped, replaced by sadness, urgency and regret. This lasts for another few moments, before being replaced with a different kind of urgency, not of sadness but of... hope, and of having work to do that matters to more than just one person. Duty, honour, and confidence.
A voice cut through the images, not one that Arkadius recognised, and definitely not the Visitor's voice. For starters, it sounded very much... female.
The future is what you make of it, Little One. It bends in more than one way, and fate has a way of... fracturing the world as you know it. Arkadius Hogg, you and him are entwined now, whatever may become of it whether good or bad. I entrust him to you as my representative, and entrust you to him. I trust that both of you will... There was a pause for a moment, the images of light still swimming in Arkadius' vision.
...eventually benefit from the... mutual arrangement. A figure swam clearly into view, made up of the threads of light. It hovered there for a moment, before allowing it's two arms to move, hands clapping together harshly...
A loud bang caused Arkadius to snap awake immediately, bolting upright in his bed. Ida stirred slowly, the telepathic link reengaging as she did. Arkadius was gasping for breath, trying hard to recover from what he'd seen, his thoughts swimming between everything he had just remembered in his dream, trying oh so quickly to process.
Was that real?, he asked himself, and Ida answered slowly via their mental link,
I'd say so. I had the same dream. It was... definitely a dream, but it felt so real to me, if you know what I mean?
Arkadius sighed, resting his hand down on the bed next to Ida. She instinctively climbed up it, sitting on his shoulder.
"Okay. I'm wide awake, and it is early morning, and I think trying to go back to sleep is just going to be... pointless. I'm gonna go open the shop early, do some sorting and... see what comes of today."
Just a few hours later would be when Sheryl would appear through his door, the bell above the door tinkling to address her arrival.
