A Concern Regarding a Loyal Knight

by Jailer Cornelius Vater

It seems as though I may come to an impasse yet when it comes to the All-Mother Yeseen. It seems that despite my vocal concern of the potential threat the All-Mother poses; in regard to the spread of corrupted magics that possess her, one of her most loyal knights, Barnabus of Voltura's Grace, remains adamant about his vow to protect her. I would not wish to come to blows with one that expresses loyalty to the divine however, I cannot simply stay silent in my concern for the danger the corrupting influence of magic poses. Even with the knowledge that a fiend within the eternal night is the one responsible for her possession, they seem to be naively trusting of the importance of the All-Mother and what she stands for.

Oh, My dearest Esteria, I write in my thoughts wondering what I should do. I am not the only one that has these concerns as I find kinship with a particular elf and my old friend. But even they have their apprehensions. Pythagoras insists on attempting an exorcism within the next town after acquiring the necessary components. Andar, an elf whose meditations back up his counsel, finds the matter to be a delicate matter that our fellowship of companions may come to blows. If that is where we may head, I must not back down in following my duties in preventing the further spread of deep corruption.

If I may die by his hand; born out of conflict over the All-Mother's fate, I will request that he bring my body back to the estate for it to be laid within the crypts of my forefathers. He is a good man and would wish not him suffer the consequences over an honorable duel. If I am to die by his Hand, I would wish nothing but kindness to him.

I had requested that if the exorcism be unsuccessful, we leave her within the living custody of the Jailers. We are all bound to the mission set by us by the accuser himself. They have been forced to disband by the king himself and many of the jailers still find the death of the High Warden to be suspicious. I would only expect the mildest of sympathies that my fellow Jailers would express towards the king's name; making them ideal watchers that are unaligned to the king's interests. I also expect them to be able to keep watch over her and securing her survival. But regrettably, her survival will come at a cost to her comfort; that pain will be the cost. If we do secure her safety, she will most likely be treated as the danger she represents. Her hands and feet will be bound with her fingers interlocked behind her back. Her sight will be deprived by tight-woven cloth and her jaw will be locked by an Iron jaw to prevent the use of vocal components.

If one as loyal as Ser Barnabas would see her brought to such a position, I fear as to him entertaining the full wrath of the jailers.
