I finally went on my first real away team mission! I found it exciting, but also fully terrifying. There was so many unknowns that we had to deal with. I can't even remember the last time I experienced anything new. And of course, I blew it on my first real engineering task. What was I thinking of plugging in our fuel cell into the ancient ship?! I'm just glad I didn't blow my face off.
And the one thing I totally excelled at?!? The sciencey bits, of course!! Ever the daughter of Korahar Zo, that's for sure. humph. At least no one out here has come running up to me to talk about Mom's latest achievements...yet. Maybe I can get out of her shadow, if I commit to that choice.
I guess I should record the facts as well. sigh. What's a good journal log without them?
We went to a planet called Aram. It reads as a class L planet, however it has a small section that is clearly class M. Within that small section is a pre-industrial civilization and an ancient, near 200,000 year old ship. The probe scans made the scientists believe it was Iconian, but it doesn't match anything we know about Iconians. They didn't want it to contaminate the locals, and wanted it removed. However, it seems to be the source of life, having seeded the river with some sort of plankton and creatures.
This will require more investigation. We will need to watch the interactions, if any, between the creatures and the local population. Also, we are considering capturing one of the creatures to study it farther. I feel that knowledge is important, but I do worry about capturing intelligent life.
