Outside the entrance to the poppers' field of the Neverdeath graveyard, Kanenas paused, casting a glance at the others before informing them he'd catch up in a few moments, expressing the need to visit someone first. As he diverged from the party, Kanenas, clutching a bouquet of flowers he had purchased, made his way to the grave of his mother, Sarah. There, a simple wooden tombstone, hardened by magic to withstand the elements, bore the outline of the Denier symbol above the inscription.
A silent voice,
And a loud pen.
A simple message for a simple woman. Looking down, Kanenas saw that there was another bouquet at the foot of her tombstone, the flowers withered. His father had been here recently. Kanenas sighed. He placed the fresh flowers on the grave.
“Hey mom, long time no see. I'm sorry it's been a while since my last visit but things have been crazy since I left. I have some friends waiting for me outside; we're going to fight this weird undeath cult,... I think. But I just wanted to take the opportunity to visit you before we went on our latest dangerous mission. I’ll introduce them next time I come bye. I have so much to tell you. So many crazy things have happened since I left for Phandalin; I wish I had the time to tell you. But I just wanted to come by and say that I love you and I miss you every day. That I am trying to be a man you would be proud of.”
Emotion threatened to overwhelm the Rune Knight, but he steadied himself, rising to his feet and casting one last glance at the tombstone before walking away to rejoin his companions.
