Who in the hell sets up a research base on a fucking ICE PLANET of all places?
Have they even seen a horror movie? Do they want Brain Parasites!?
Because that's how you get Brain Parasites.
Anyway I've been teamed up with a guy called Zanderbey. Seems nice enough.
He's carrying a pretty large crate though....wonder how long it'll take him to ask
me to carry it?
They gave us Grav Shutes to get down. Only had a little training on how to use
them hope I don't die on impact. If they wanted an air insertion they should have
sent someone trained in that. Well no use crying about it now. Still air insertion
is still better than being damn teleported any day of the week.
XXX
You know hitting the ground hurts a hell of a lot less with a Grav Shute.
Not sure why that surprises me as much as it does. Anyway now it's
time to trudge through a few hundred meters of ice and snow up to my
damn balls to reach this damn research station. God's above I hate
today.
Say what you want about Castrovel, and I do most of bad. But at least
the climate was too my liking. Going from temperate to this has not
been fun to say the least. Least there's less chance of grisly death by
Mega Fauna here I think...I hope.
XXX
So the security team managed to get itself locked out of the damn
base and don't have another way in. Oh that's brilliant that just
peachy keen. Never thought I'd miss Castroval and the Elves,
and you know what I still don't.
Go to hell. Snooty knife eared pricks.
Zanderbey tried to open the door. But that went nowhere.
Considering the size of the damn door and how tight security seems
to be. Inside at least. That does not surprise me. According to Zanderbey
before the console up and die on him it flashed up a warning about something
being out of containment.
Considering this is an ice planet and there's a research station here I feel
somewhat alright stating that its probably some kind of horrific biological
weapon. But maybe I've just watched The Thing too many times. I'd say
that I had a bad feeling about this but considering we're stewards being
sent to look in on an unresponsive outpost that feels more than a little
redundant.
The Head of the security goons out here called someone when we got here
and mentioned being stewards. Not sure why. But I do care. Because I do
not feel like fighting several rent-a-cops to the death out here while I'm in
the middle of getting frostbite. That said it might be happening either way.
Gotta push him a bit see how he reacts. He's off balance at the moment let's
see if I can't make that to my advantage....
Nope that was bust.
Almost pulled a gun on me. Backed down when I mentioned that Zanderbey
and I were here on a peacekeeping mission. Not an extermination mission.
Then I begged for his life by asking him not to change one into the other.
Thankfully we didn't have to fight them to the death. On the other hand I may
have just single handedly torpedoed our chances of getting more aid. Not
sure that was worth it to be honest. Still I now trust these guys less than
I did when we got here and I wasn't even sure that was possible.
Apparently if we can't get the door open then there's a cave we can get in
through. Unfortunately anything that goes through dies. They're not entirely
sure of the why or the how. Yet again proving that they are absolutely
amazing at their jobs by leaving a potential entrance at the mercy of
something they don't know about. Apparently no one did any real recon
because whatever was in their killed things. Should have sent a damn
probe down and at least taken a look, but nope not even that.
Then again maybe they're just trying to get Zanderbey and I killed.
Not outside the realm of possibility after all.
I asked about trying that data panel again to open the door again.
According to Zanderbey he may be able to give it another go but
if something go's wrong it's going to blow up. And we're not going
to know somethings going wrong before it explodes, and embeds
red hot metal into every fuckstick in a ten meter radius.
I'd rather take my chances with the cave. At least my sword may be
of some use in there.
XXX
So about that early Mega Fauna note.
I was wrong.
Apparently this planet has Apex Predators the size of large speeders on it.
Not sure what they eat given a creature of that size would need some
serious sustenance to achieve and maintain that size.
But yeah this place is starting to remind me of a colder version of 'home'
that is not a good thing.
Also Zanderbey just told me this is a Moon not a Planet.
I am not going back and rewriting parts of this now though. Don't even
know if I'll bother saying moon from now on unless I can preface it with
'That's No' before hand. Oh and apparently that crate Zanderbey had
me haul over the last few kilometers had a mechanical fox called
Shadow in it. The Fox seems pretty cool. Not going to ask where he
got it. Given the evasive look Zanderbey gave me when I asked a
question I get the feeling I do not want to know.
Oh also he turned Shadow's create into a makeshift bomb to throw
at the FAG's (Freaky Alien Geno-type's) we encountered before. So
Zanderbey is okay in my book. Now it's just a matter of negotiating
this massive seemingly deserted complex because I can just see
this ending soooo well.
XXX
It was brain parasites.
I fucking hate being right sometimes.
XXX
HOW!?
HOW DO YOU MISS A POINT BLANK SHOT WITH A
FREAKING SHOTGUN TWICE!!!
I have lost some respect for Zanderbey I'm not going to
lie. Still not everyone is comfortable in close combat so
I'm not going to hold it against him. Besides I was told
that he was here for Technical Support while I was here
to take care of combat. So I shouldn't be surprised I guess.
Anyway now we're stuck inside the security room while
about 40 of those poor bastards that the Parasites have
taken over are on the other side of the door. Not sure how
I'm gonna get out of this one.
If I'm going to get out of this one.
