This morning I managed to work up the nerve to interject myself into a conversation these adventurers were having about this supposed dragon. The loudest was a dwarven individual Törben. He seems to have a similar lack of social awareness, and after seeing him call a nearby gnome short and insult the nearby dragonborn, I learned that all that he had was rumors too. He did seem to come here for conquest though, or at least was not opposed to it. Looking over his grimy gear, I don't think the odds would favor him or his friend.
Catching the end of a conversation, it seemed our bartender Toblen said something offensive to Elizette, who was quickly making her way out to check the job board. Feeling the lightness of my coin purse, I quickly interjected and suggested that a group might make these tasks a more fruitful endeavor. This quickly caught the ears of the Törben, Epyon the dragonborne, Zook the sickly pale gnome, and Validus a brooding human who I've seen traveling around the Sword Coast. Most of them reeked of alcohol, but they were at the very least bodies. Though I suppose they all caught early warnings of this "dragon", so maybe they will be more competent than first impressions.
Checking the board we did find 3 job postings: one to bring in a cleric that was staying at a nearby windmill, one to notify a nearby dwarven excavation site of these dragons, and one to check in with the gnomes and see if they have anything useful we could barter for. We decided to investigate them in this order. Lo and behold, this windmill and its occupant Adabra Gwynn were being besieged by a manticore that had a claw mark along its side. Speculating this might be from infighting with it's mate or perhaps it had a run in with the creature these locals are mistaking for a dragon. Needless to say it was looking for a quick meal, and seeing 6 armed individuals approaching it quickly fled.
Adabra was reticent to follow us, and after an exchange with the cowardly Harbin Wester and the red guard that he has hired, I was assured she had good judgement. We need to do something about these guards but that is a problem for another day. We discussed our options and decided that time was of the essence. After a short rest at the bar, we went to see the dwarves; we made it before nightfall, but they were spooked about an unusual creature they found. It can't be that dangerous, right?
