Thorley Glaath
Thorley Glaath
Thorley grew up like any other Frogkind in the Shatterlands between Mid'Mercy and Innis Baybreak. Thorley never knew his father, his adopted one dying to frog cancer. Thorley decided at a young age that he wanted to meet his biological father, his mother told him where to meet him and young Thorley went searching for the man he didn’t know. He had walked about 10 miles away from any home or Frogkind when he saw a little shack, in it was his father. Thorley's father was a very large and strong frog, very mild mannered but had a strong voice and had quite the amount of stories. Thorley soon became very fond of his real father, never really knowing his adopted father because of his early passing. Day after day Thorley would walk miles just to visit, talk, play games, fish and learn more about his father.
Thorley only knew him as "Sir" but despite the informality of it, they both became quite fond of being in each other's company. His father would tell him stories of faraway wars, kings and queens, fae, witches, wizards and treasure. Thorley soon became enthralled with a specific story his father would tell, about a young frog prince who could speak to the stars, thanks to a magical blade named Rethrandl. The magical blade gave the frog prince the ability to learn the secrets of the universe, the stars telling him all about the heavens and the gods. The frog prince was soon hunted down for his knowledge by the envious kings and queens of the land. The frog prince fled and the blade was lost to the world. Thorley would have his father retell the story of the frog prince over and over, hanging on every word his father told about the blade. By the time Thorley was 20 he had forgotten the stories his father had told and was planning on breeding and starting a family.
On one of his visits to his father, he noticed something off as he approached the shack; the door was ajar and the windows were broken. Thorley rushed inside slamming the broken door aside only to find no one, the place had been destroyed. Something caught his eye, there was a small note on the table that read "Find the blade", Thorley rushed and searched his father's room where he saw a notebook he had never seen before. Thorley picked up the book and on the first page, in his father's handwriting was written "The search for Rethrandl". Thorley searched the book finding eye witness statements, drawings, maps and more on the fabled blade he heard about in story. In disbelief Thorley returned home and told the town what he had seen, leaving out the bits about the blade. Thorley told his mother and his friends he had to go searching for his father, packed his things and his father's notes and left the town, following the map that was in his father's notes. Thorley has been searching for his father and on the road for 2 years and has told no one about the blade.
Thorley has since traveled through Brittlesword Freestates and Rivals Monarchy to get to Dunnywild where he found the people to be much more openminded.
