Cliffvale

Cliffvale Overview

As humans spread out from West Reach along the rivers, a trading settlement spung up at the junction of the Oaktarel river and the Lambridge river. Just north of the river, a large granite escarpment dominates the landcape. Between the cliff and the river, in the rich fertile floodplain, the city of Cliffvale was founded.

Cliffvale quickly grew in size and wealth thanks to the prosperous trade routes between West Reach and Draceen. As the region grew and expanded its reach, it developed into a powerful kingdom that controlled the rivers of Lakeland. For many years, this was an extraordinarily lucrative arrangement for all, allowing trade to flourish more or less undisturbed by more than the occassional monster or bandits.

However, over time the rulers of Cliffvale grew greedy, raising tariffs on all tradegoods that passed through the rivers they patrolled. Eventually, they raised them so high that it sparked a war between West Reach and Cliff Vale that came to be known as the River Wars

In the heart of Cliffvale, nestled amidst the cascading rivers and lush forests, lies a prominent Fade Crystal, radiating its psychoreactive influence throughout the city and beyond. This crystalline marvel, known as the Cliffstone, possesses remarkable properties that shape the reality of the surrounding area.

The Cliffstone, with its size, purity, and potent psychoreactivity, engenders a profound connection to the rivers that flow under the city's watchful gaze. As the currents dance and converge, guided by the crystal's influence, the waters of the rivers become imbued with a gentle energy. This effect grants the people of Cliffvale an exceptional affinity with the rivers, enabling them to navigate the waterways with unparalleled skill and grace.

The rivers flowing through Cliffvale undergo a fascinating transformation under the sway of the Fade Crystal. The waters become enriched with a vibrant luminescence, casting a mesmerizing glow that reflects off the crystal's surface. This radiant luminescence not only illuminates the city's nights but also acts as a protective barrier, warding off malevolent entities and fostering a sense of security for the inhabitants.

Moreover, the Cliffstone's influence extends to the economic realm, where its impact on trade and commerce is significant. Cliffvale's control over the river routes and the strategic positioning of the Fade Crystal enables the city to impose tariffs and exert influence over the flow of goods and resources passing through its domain. This economic advantage empowers Cliffvale, allowing it to thrive as an economic hub and bolstering the city's prominence within the confederation.

However, as with any source of power, the Cliffstone's influence is not without consequences. The psychoreactivity of the crystal amplifies the emotions and desires of those within its sphere of influence. This heightened state of emotion can lead to heightened tensions, rivalries, and power struggles among the city's ruling elite. The competition for control over the Fade Crystal's resources and the benefits it confers has created a delicate balance of power, with factions vying for dominance within the council that governs Cliffvale.

The presence of the Cliffstone has also drawn the attention of scholars and researchers from far and wide, seeking to understand the intricacies of its psychoreactive properties. The Fade Crystal's mysteries continue to intrigue and perplex even the most knowledgeable experts, driving ambitious individuals to unravel the secrets held within its crystalline lattice.

Amidst the flowing rivers and majestic forests, Cliffvale's Fade Crystal stands as a symbol of the city's influence, shaping the reality of its inhabitants and the prosperity of the region. The interplay between the crystal's psychoreactivity, the city's governance, and the natural forces of the rivers intertwines to create a dynamic narrative that unfolds within the vibrant tapestry of Lakeland.
