Guild Headmaster

Depending on which guild you are looking at, there are several things that are different, yet the headmaster can be explained pretty well using the example of Seth Rickon, the headmaster of the BlackBestia-HuntingGuild.

Qualifications

The headmaster must have profound knowledge about structures inside a guild this large - the BlackBestia-HuntingGuild f.e is the largest hunter guild to exist, with over 65.000 associated people. You need to understand what it truly means to care for such a large number of people, just as you must know how the business of your people functions. A headmaster with no knowledge of hunting, in the case of Seth Rickon f.e is useless because you must take on all the hard decisions, and every raid party will need your approval for decisions in the face of chaos and odds bigger than them.

Requirements

It must fit. The people will choose you based on your rank as a person, and the legacy you have built for yourself within the guild. If they are not convinced that you will do a good job, you will not get the position.

Appointment

The nomination follows a little routine - sadly connected in most parts to the previous headmaster's death ceremony. In the case of the BBHG f.e Seth got nominated by Thyr while he was on his deathbed after a poisonous incident. After the previous headmaster declares his wish for his successor, the guardians of the guild need to give their approval. If they do, there will be a 3 days mourning period for the deceased headmaster, followed by a three-week period of silence. And at the end of the last day there will be a festival to honor the legacy of said person. At this festivity, all hunters have to be present at the headquarters to cast their votes. Voting happens by placing your personal guild emblem in the vote box. Later, when the voting is done, every hunter will receive their dinner together with a random emblem that gets placed on the plate. On the backside of the emblem are carved all the names, of those who wore it on their raids. This way, it might be you are receiving the emblem of a top-ranked hunter - which often leads to two things: Envious gazes and a young hunter having the motivation boost of their life. If you are one of the APEX hunters, you will receive a special badge from the new headmaster, as his personal approval of your standing in this guild. APEX hunters collect these special emblems to show for how long they have served the guild and how many of their own headmasters they survived as the best of the best.

If the hunters do not vote with 60% for you - or you decline the offer - , there will be a nomination period in which all raid groups can enter their favorite for the position, and the voting will start over the very next day. If no headmaster can be found, the oldest (in terms of having served the longest) guardian of the guild will take on the position.

Duties

Organization of the guild, depending on their work structure. Seth fe. has to organize the guild guardians, oversee the finances of the guild, make decisions pro or contra certain situations, organize the raids and make sure the entire construct runs smoothly. He also has to go into interrogation, diplomatic exchange and negotiations with other guilds, lords and kings.

You basically get stripped off all the things you once did, you care for all the paperwork that nobody wants to do, that is the baseline of all the things you once did...oh, and you are the one who must make all the ugly decisions.

Responsibilities

As headmaster, you have the last word in every decision, yet you got people around you who sort the things out and make sure you only get involved with things that really need your attention. Yet whatever goes wrong, especially in terms of diplomacy, raids, causalities and resources, is your personal responsibility. The success of the entire construct is 1:1 connected to your name - and a good headmaster is aware of that, accepts that and acts appropriate to that. The same goes with the darker aspects of that situation.

Benefits

I don't know what benefit you could possibly talk about - since I became headmaster, I have grown plenty of gray hair, have sleepless nights, don't have any time for social relationships, and may the gods have mercy, I have seen far too many palace banquets in the past couple years, while I have no time to spend going out to hunt and do what I have been doing my entire life! ... Other than that, I love my people, I love the bestias and basically, this is the best job I could have dreamed of and the greatest honor a hunter could wish for. Yeah. It's not that bad, actually. ...What?....YEAH, OKAY the free food and free home is also fine. Jheeez. And now get lost, I have work to do!

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

If you harm the guild willingly, put their lives at risk for personal vendettas, or act contrary to the vow you made, the guardians will remove you. If you resist, the removal might become physical. This might sound harsh, but it is necessary in a world that is filled with people and creatures who can cause great harm. No guild needs a guild master who destroys it from the inside too. On the other hand - making incorrect choices while still being half-baked, is often overlooked, and most guardians will try their best to ensure you are set up with all you need to do a fantastic job.
