Source Tree

A source tree is a natural wonder in the world of Ûnduleah. There are 8 Source Trees. They are each created by the Antler-Headed Ancients.

8 types

There are 8 source trees. Each has a slightly different look.
  • mosslight tree
  • lavender fall tree
  • shimmermist tree
  • honeydew tree
  • yellowstar tree
  • blue dot tree
  • auburn tree
  • blacklily tree

Purpose / Function

The 8 source trees were created by the Antler-Headed to bring fertility to the landscape. They were a labor of love for all that grows and flows. Each source tree had different flowers when they bloom, and each blooms in a different month of the year. They all produce a liquid that has nurturing properties that flows as a stream over the landscape, leaving a fertile and blooming landscape in it's wake.

Design

A source tree landmark consists of the source tree itself in the middle, but surrounding it is a small stream of water that forms into a brook. Surrounding the source tree is a field of grasses, flowers and shrubs. This field usually has a radius of about 10-20 meters. The field is encircled by a line of trees that have curved, bent and intertwined to form a mostly impassable wall. In some places, the trees have been shaped to form an archway, that is camouflaged by a curtain of flowers.

Special Properties

From the trees' bark, leaves or flowers flows a liquid that forms a little stream. This sap is slightly thicker than water. This sap mixes with the groundwater and fertilises the ground in the area. This sap can be harvested and used as fertilizer, though it loses potency as it moves further away from the source tree. The forest near this stream will occasionally sprout trees with flowers similar to the source tree.   Each source tree has unique flowers and attributes, for example: From the canopy of the shimmer-mist tree falls a silver sprinkle that covers the landmark with a thin layer of glistening mist. Breathing in the mist causes a calming, pain-relieving and healing sensation.

Alterations

As the landscape slowly moves over millennia, the flow of the fertile river has changed somewhat, spreading its fertile footprint beyond where the river currently flows.

Architecture

Only natural, growing flora is used in the construction of this landmark. Trees and branches have been bent and intertwined with each other to create walls and a few archways. Flowers bloom in great numbers, and flowers hang from the frees, forming a curtain that blocks the view through the archways.
