Viddleland

Arguably the strongest nation in Útgarðar Viddleland is a center of trade and commerce. It is composed of a number of smaller jarldoms with them voting to elect one of them to the rank of High Jarl. The elected jarl usually takes on another title like the former High Jarl, Bersmir the Slayer. Named so because of his expert skill at monster slaying.

Its cities, and by extension people, are centered on the coast and fjords. They are your stereotypical Nords strong, resilient, and drunk. They prefer ale as their drink of choice due to its ease of transport and slightly lower freezing temperature compared to mead. Fenrisian Ale brewed in the Fenris wildlands is consider their form of a good drink. Everywhere else its a top shelf item due to the limited availability and shipping costs.

The primary businesses of Viddleland are hunting, fighting, and good ale. Its primary exports are warriors, ale, and drunken warriors. Companies of Viddleland mercenaries act as elite mercenaries as far as their ships will take them. They also launch raiding expeditions on other nations in Útgarðar or lands further afield. These vikingers raid lands and then sell their bounty afield and return with the profits or simply bring the haul back home.

While other nations do viking Viddleland is most well known for it. This is to the point that to Viddle has entered a few languages as a word meaning 'to steal or take with force'. This viking is how they train up their elite troops and perfect their hit and run tactics.

Recently the nation has been embroiled in a power struggle, as happens when the High Jarl dies. The circumstances surrounding the High Jarl's death are highly suspicious and a number of people have placed accusations on a number of other people. Most notably between the Jarls who have begun their regular cycle of infighting when a High Jarl dies, except with much more vigor. In other news a mercenary commander from Villt Svæði appears to be gaining more power and has begone exerting control over the region.

Time will tell what will happen to this great nation. Will it pull itself together or break like Dallerland.
Trivia
  • The people of Viddleland, especially around the Villt Svæð region, boast a fair resistance to intoxication not as good as a dwarf but still fair, this may explain their like of harder ale and especially Wildmjød.
  • There is an old law that if a Viddlelander can survive eight years in the Villt Svæð wilderness they will be eligible to be High Jarl based on just how powerful they must be to survive. This law has not been acted on since it was created and it has been suggested that it was made as a drunken joke by a previous High Jarl as most weirder laws are.
  • Merchant ships from Viddleland carry a distinct wolf's head carved onto their prow for easy identification on the seas.

Contentious Rivals

Frequent wars, raiding, and other acts of aggression have led the populations of both kingdoms to a fierce rivalry with each other. They still do trade though, and it is assured that if another power threatens one of the pair, the other will come to their aid. Mostly out of a "only I get to destroy you feeling."
