Ambrian Wastes

The Ambrian Wastes are a unique form of desert. Unlike sandy Tatooine, Ambria is covered in a hard-packed clay from which dust rises easily. The clay breaks down into a sticky silica that bakes in the heat until the microscopic shards become glassy and clear. The red clay is coated with the semi-translucent silica in certain places where the ground has been disturbed, causing the surface to look as though a film has developed on the baked clay.

When the winds howl through the waste, the downward pressure of the dust devils is enough to force clay dust from the ground. The storm then hurls these silica particles through the air with such force that the friction heats the shards to glass, leading to Ambria's second most hazardous danger - the glass-storm. Every year a few dozen massive sandstorms whip across the surface of Ambria, swirling the burned silica glass in massive waves of highspeed destruction. The winds deposit the silica against anything in its way, and the heated silica begins to bond together. This unique process is what formed the Tiernvael Mountains.
