Autognomes

Autognomes are mechanical beings built rather then born. Yet in this age, the art of creating an Autognome is only known to a selected few. Sometimes, because of a malfunction or a unique circumstance, an autognome becomes separated from its creator and strikes out on its own.
While most Autognomes are roughly shaped in the form of Gnomes, they come in all form an sizes that may resemble other species or forgo a humanoid form altogether. The internal components used in an autognome’s manufacture can vary wildly; one autognome might have an actual beating heart in its chest cavity, while another might be powered by stardust or intricate clockwork gears.
Their lifespan is theoretically endless, though most Autognomes deteriorate with age as malfunctions accrue over time. Yet still, a typical Autognome can live up to 500 years.
Although the Autognomes are few in number compared to other species, their vast intellect and technological prowess make them a dominating force in the The Triumvirate.

The RAW of Spelljammer describes Autognomes explicitly built by rock gnomes and bearing resemblance to their creator. In my universe the origin of Autognomes is a bit more varied and as such their appearance include the entire range of sentient humanoid machines. The "gnome" part of the name still sticks as a nod to the original.
If you wish to play such a different form, the stats for the specie can be adjusted accordingly.
