Pirates

"Pirate" is a loosely defined word that describes all matters of folk. While some are pirates in a more traditional sense (plundering, raiding, hijacking), some in this category might identify themself instead as revolutionaries, artists, or philosophers. What defines these people is that they tend to live outside the systems and structures established by the Corps.   Pirates are often organized in small communes or crews. They usually gather around charismatic leaders like a ship captain. These crews are known to claim territory and even go to war with each other. The reputation of those notable crews can range from despised criminals to venerated folk-hero fighting for the everyman.   In recent history the influence of the Pirates has taken a heavy hit. During the The Great Pirate War the Pirates managed to unify in unprecedented number to fight together against the Corps, yet ultimately got badly beaten - in no small part to the influence of the Clockwork Gnomes. Nowadays, the most notable pirates are either dead or in hiding. Any semblance of a great united faction of pirates has ended along with the war.   Pirates are oposed by Corps the and their structures. Though most people are living somewhere on the spectrum between the stability provided by the Corps and the yearning for freedom embodied by the Pirates.

Pirate Kings

Pirates naturally oppose most forms of hierarchy and structure. Yet if the times require it, they are capable of banding together. In such times one or multiple Pirate Kings are declared to act as temporary leader. In recent history 7 Pirate Kings were declared during the cause of the The Great Pirate War.
