Sur - The Iron Lady
Sur and its people are forged from Iron. You may bend it, dent it or even break it with enough force, but each attempt will be resisted with the utmost ferocity.Western Vardania is home to many fascinating cities. These settlements, often referred to as Queens due to their power and influence have made many contributions to Vardania's general wealth and culture. Their fleets rule the waves and their traders are present in nearly every corner of the world. With each other they fight fiercly over trade rights and spheres of influence in a dance that has gone on for millennia. In time, each of them has specialized and managed to gain the monopoly over a set of goods. Nurn has its colours and chemicals. Ainach its silver. Methlan the ships and Vylon the wool. The last but definitely not least of these cities is Sur, the Iron Lady. Sur is one of the oldest cities in Vardania. Founded in the late 560s DA, it quickly grew thanks to its location at near the river Sailin and the fertile earth it brought with it. Its growing wealth would draw the attention of the Rhomeian Empire, which returned to Vardania in the early 7th century. Faced with the might of the Eternal Empire, the Samnii bend the knee and became a vassal. It was around this time that vasr iron reservers were discovered in the hills north of Sur and over time the city became the prime forge and armory in southern Vardania. Over the millennia, Sur has seen many foreign overlords. From Rhomeians to Ferans and the Lords of Tarquinnia, many have held the Iron Lady in their grasp. But Sur has never broken. Every time it has risen again, asserted its independence and grown its wealth.
