The Iron Spire

A fitting seat of power for what would many call a group of heartless tyrants.
— Henrik Andrael
Like Maharael's Fist rises as a monument in defiance of the gods so does the Iron Spire rise in defiance to the will of man. It is a fortress that sits at the very centre of Sur, the city spreading from it in all directions. Some have compared it to a spider sitting in its web. Considering the current political situation in the city, they may not be too far from the truth. Originally started by the first Samnii Kings of Sur, in the last vestiges of the Time of Twilight as a safe place for their people, it has grown to be the seat of Samnii power and influence. The rulers of Sur, their families and advisors, the cities most important offices, the guilds, the admiralty and general staff, they all operate from within the building. Additionally, the spire houses the cities main armoury, mint and vast storage rooms. Should an enemy attack the city, the population will find refuge within its labyrinthine underground halls. Some claim that the entire populace could find safety there.   The Spire itself is not a single building, but rather a series of interconnected sections that have been placed on top of each other over the years. Together they form a somewhat rectangular pillar of about 125 meters height. This pillar is surrounded by a moat ten meters wide and of an unknown depth. The moat is connected to the river Sailin and the sea through two channels. As part of a vast network of similar waterways, they form an important part of the cities defensive strategy. On each side of this moat, there stands a single black pillar of about 15 meters height. They are connected to the Spire via covered bridges and serve as the structures entrance points.
No army shall ever breach the Iron Halls! Their blood shall paint our walls and their skulls shall fill our Moat!
