The People of the Skies
Physical
Birdfolk appear as humanoid birds that stand between four and six feet tall, sporting a pair of arms that match their legs, and a pair of wings on their back. Birdfolk can look like any bird, imaginary or real. They can take after one or both parents. Due to such variety, birdfolk can vary quite a bit in build and diet, from obligate carnivores to obligate herbivores and everything in-between. Birdfolk size tends to be based off of the sort of bird it appears as (ex. - a bushtit-esque birdfolk would range towards the 4' end of the scale, while a ostrich-esque birdfolk would range towards th 6' end).Age & Reproduction
Birdfolk live to the average of 40 years, reaching their juvenile stage around 5, adulthood around 10, and old age around 30.Birdfolk lay a nest of eggs that usually averages between 2 and 4 eggs, with single egg nests or nests of up to 8 eggs being uncommon to rare. It is not uncommon for eggs laid to be infertile or to not hatch, accounting for the highest portion of preadolescent birdfolk mortality. Birdfolk hybrids are rare, and require magic intervention with most species. Birdfolk have been known to occasionally reproduce with merfolk and Nymauti demons without magical aid.
General Culture
Birdfolk are known for living in tight-knit groups, usually living in multigenerational homes. Birdfolk often have a tight community with others of their species, resulting in them being often less open to outsiders. Supplies and food is often gathered by and for the group as a whole, and their social structures usually reflect this. Birdfolk are often known for having bright, vibrant clothing and flashy jewelry. Clothing is worn more as a fashion statement than to cover modesty, and can be a sign of power and wealth in some less community-focused birdfolk cultures. Birdfolk can often be found in groups of similar birdfolk. Usually birdfolk 'flocks' consist of individuals with similar diets, so birdfolk who look like birds of prey are usually found together for example.Birdfolk are accepted in other cultures, albeit they can often be viewed as a tad eccentric or exotic.
