WorldEmber 2023 Homework in Aanrah | World Anvil

WorldEmber 2023 Homework

"I can tell you this, dragon - whatever end he is destined to meet, it is not here. He will outlive me. He will outlive you, Maholdymyndr. He will outlive Aanrah. When this world meets its end, whatever it may be, whenever it may be, Browai Dréómmalco will see it. And he will remember every struggle and battle, from here to then, and take it beyond."
— ʻiatthaḑa, the Nuríian Fortune God
Oh, this is the first time I've participated in anything for WorldAnvil! Is my world a mess? Yes. Are most of my articles not filled out? Yes. Am I still using basic CSS because I haven't tackled that beast yet? Also yes. Will I give this my best shot? You know it.

Week 1

The Pledge

I have decided to go forth and write about Aanrah's beloved and also hated bard god, Bróbh Boíg, aka Browai. He is as close as I currently have for this setting of a 'main character', in as far as he is often dragged through every problem or ends up involved whether he likes it or not. Since his early days as a mortal and then a demigod, he's gotten into all sorts of trouble and strange occurrences, and it has only gotten worse since the fae god ʻiatthaḑa predicted he'd outlive this world, and every other divine - good and evil - has decided Browai will bare witness to their actions and the events of the world, and will be the one to tell them as they truly happened.
As such he has a lot to work with. He's seen tons of events, met lots of people, and been many places. It will give me a chance to flesh out some important aspects of Aanrah, but through one person's POV.

Week 2

Mini-Meta

Scope

The scope of this comes down to what Bróbh Boíg has interacted with in particular - the people, places, and events he's been around. I am still debating on if I want to just focus on things he's related to and information that is from his POV, or if I want to just generally focus on things revolving around him that aren't necessarily from his perspective or anything.

Theme & Mood

Bróbh Boíg's story and character revolves around a man who is, at the end of the day, still sort of mortal at heart - he wants the best for everyone, and is driven by a very deep desire to see the people of the world understand each other. The theme and mood will likely be a mix of hopeful but tense - with some of the horrors of the world next to some of the better things.

Goals & Inspiration

My goal is just to flesh out more of the most important characters, places, and things in Aanrah, since Bróbh Boíg has a lot to do with them or interacts with them. He is the closest to a main character I have for this world, so I felt he would be a good focus point.
For inspiration, two songs especially have been doing a lot of lifting for me.
I've also been inspired a lot by the trope of the narrator as a character who is involved somehow, or watching from afar but is a person in the world.

Category Structure

While it will always be tweaked and fixed up, I actually think I started off with a okay structure. For what I need right now, it'll work!

Week 3

The front page. Ah yes. The big thing for me on changing that will just making it more friendly, and embedding the most important articles at the front - things like The Races - A Quick Guide and other quick 'at a glance' articles that I want to have summarize of the main points. I'd like to make some nice art for it - things that capture the world and help highlight the important articles, because I know those catch my eye and help orient me on other people's pages. A big part of that will involve me figuring out CSS though, and that is not going to happen right this second. Getting the groundwork for my world in article format comes first! This will be a great chance for me to watch other people overhaul their pages too though, and get a feel for what other people are doing, what I like, and how they're doing it.

Week 4

Aaa last minute prep? Like, really last minute prep?
Mostly just organizing a few things again and making a list of things I know I probably want to write about or have ideas for. Everything else is.. sort of up in the air. I wish I had more energy more consistently, but it's hard during the work week. Especially when my coworker is gone and I'm flying solo. But at very least, we'll try for at least one good writing session a week on the weekends, likely another one on Monday's because they tend to be slow for work. Excited!
