Yendria is raped by her father via mind-controlled boys from her village. He threatens that next time he'll use Zovas and she flees.

Yendria was raped by a group of boys she grew up with and cared about when their minds were invaded and they were puppeted by her father, who threatened that next time it would be Zovas he puppeted to hurt her.
Terrified, Yendria told Matron Lota Anzi that she was leaving and ran away, apprenticing under an older man for a while to learn to fight and take bounties and escort jobs across the sands.

While travelling with his brother, Sama met Michye and took her under his wing, becoming quickly fond of the girl.
After around six months, Lawe got sick of having to deal with their sexual tension and broke from the group, going off on his own.

Now: Year 0

Yendria is escorting a woman across the sands when they are attacked and the woman dies. When Yendria delivers the woman's baby to his destination, the receiver attempts to kill her and the baby both. Yendria brings the baby back to her matron, intending to hand him over to be raised by her, but the baby has separation anxiety and screams whenever Yendria tries. Yendria ends up keeping him and naming him Eru.
Yendria takes a job at the orphanage for room and board and earns enough money to have a small place to live nearby for herself and her baby. She reconnects with Zovas.
Yendria meets Lawe and is attracted to him. She invites him back to her place where they have sex. He's surprised to find she has a baby when he interrupts them midway through, and when he bites her tongue hard enough to draw blood realizes she isn't a normal human woman. He frightens her when he demands she tell him what she is, but she calms when his questioning becomes about Eru and whether she's a threat to him. She promises she isn't, that Eru is her child and she loves him, and then they have sex multiple times.

i think she lived close to his and lawe's mother somehow? maybe crazy happenstance, maybe there was a "i got fucked by a god and now i have a baby" support group i dont know, but she lived pretty close and so they grew up pretty much together

sama and lawe were closest, obviously, but she and sama were also close (maybe also close to lawe?)

but whereas sama and lawe had each other (much like we said about them compared to yendria? they always had each other, they were always in each other's heads and bonded so strongly there could never be any secrets to tear them apart or drive a wedge between them) she didn't have anyone that way

and i think her father (i dont. know if they know who her father was? and i have this e-e sinking suspicion it was banshap actually, which would explain a lot of the continuing aggro between him and netyo, i feel like 400 years is long enough for difficulty having more kids being hard but still having another kid) got in her head

and whether it was banshap or not, there's clearly a lot of power plays going on in the god's area, and netyo is, as lawe said, using nova (and has been for longer than lawesama have been alive) to control the other gods and cement power

and sama and lawe are. his sons.

and i think whoever her father was got in her head and drove a wedge between her and sama

but because they were close? he couldnt...quite convince her that sama was the worst? whereas he just about convinced her of lawe, possibly in a defensive-of-sama capacity, honestly

maybe like... lawe was starting to be more chaotic down the spectrum of drinking, drugs, whatever because their father was starting to Use Him, whereas sama's chaos comes more from being a dumbfuck who dives into battle or opens a portal in their living room or under michye's feet

and maybe lawe was going a little off the rails or at least it seemed that way from the outside and not. you know. being in his head with him

and her father convinced her lawe was A Threat and she tried to get through to him but he just "???" and they werent as close as her and sama anyway and she seemed. weird.

i think she was in love with sama and i think sama could have been in love with her but this all came at the wrong time for that and sama never actually fell. i do think they fucked. i think she's the one he had intimacy with (did they threesome with her? who knows. i feel like they might have e-e considering lawe's "i could convince him!" and the fact it was so utterly not a shock to sama) but also being a demigod she could take his strength without it being A Lot

and finally! she got tipped a little far (honestly i wonder if he was dosing her with nova's blood whew that would hurt) and he kitted her out with a knife or a sword that could kill a demigod and taught her how and she went for lawe. to protect sama.

except. you know. *gestures at them* they pick each other, dont they

and sama got there in time to defend lawe who had been well and truly whittled down (i see them pretty young, actually. <30?) especially if she was on nova's blood, and if it wasnt for the sama-lawe thing she probably could have finished him off

but she had also been whittled down because he's damn good at what he does 

but honestly i think he was probably holding back? not going for the kill? because

you know

sama adored her and was on the cusp of falling for her. i doubt lawe would defend himself lethally against someone sama loved in any way

and sama, who had not been fighting this whole time, who hadnt been whittled down, who had come rushing to lawe's side but it had taken time because he hadnt perfected his portals yet and hadnt been trained by their father (yendria must. remind lawe of young sama a lot actually) the way lawe had, but had higher power because he hadnt been using it that whole time

got her, fought her, got the blade off her and turned it on her and impulsively just. killed her.

i dont know if he knew it would kill her. but it did. and she died in his arms.

(and i think the blade disintegrated. which tells me it's a one-use and has to be reforged?)

firstly: i think this is when sama started being far more controlled? not. not michye-level controlled but holding back from feelings, holding back from just impulsively stabbing instead of disarming and preventing further harm.

i think he was fucked up for a fucking long time after and i think lawe's "haha yeah these years were bad i dont remember them rly" re: something in the 200s has a companion here for sama because i dont think he was functional at all for quite a while (which, honestly might have contributed to netyo being swayed about him being useless too and would have shown lawe that demigods can die and thusly sama was, in fact, in danger) 

and i think he often wonders if he could have saved her if he hadnt just impulsively finished her off to protect lawe

not because he'd ever pick her over lawe but because he didnt realize she was so brainwashed until i assume lawe told him from finding out from netyo that whoever (banshap? someone else?) had been meddling

and idk where lawe lands on this spectrum but sama definitely dibs'd at least his half of "i'm going to save this fucking striga even if it fucking kills me i will NOT let her die!!!!!!!"

so really he failed step 1 of "stop caring"
