Investigating The Mumbling Tower

Structure

Exposition

Upon returning to town and spending the night there the PCs are terrorised with dreams of a distant mumbling voice they can't decipher. Flashes of the nearby tower feature throughout but when they wake their memories of it are gone unless they can pass a DC18 wisdom saving throw. All of the PCs will remember having strange dreams but won't be able to remember the tower was involved. If they fail by 5 of more they will not remember there is a tower looming over the town at all unless they are directly looking at it at which point they will not notice it had been there before but it certainly is now. They only retain the memories of this tower while they are looking at it.

Goals

  • Figure out the tower is causing something strange to happen in town.
  • Investigate the tower.
  • Reach the top of the tower.
  • Deal with Alaion Caesilea.

Hooks

  • The PCs themselves are being affected by this tower and its influence.
  • No one in town seems to acknowledge the tower, or are primarily un-phased by it.
  • Everyone in town has complaints of strange dreams though no one can remember what is strange about them.

Moral Quandaries

  • Will the party fight Alaion Caesilea? Detain him? Kill him? Or take a more diplomatic approach?

Backdrops

Locations

As the party enters the tower the room is bare save for a strange magical circle in the center of the room. Stepping on it will take them to the first randomised floor.
