Industry & Trade

Chicago is the nation's center of commodities trading. It sits at the confluence of the Mississippi River basin and the Great Lakes, and it is the hub of the transcontinental railroad system. The Union Stock Yard is the largest meat processing center in the United States. Much of the grain of the upper Midwest pass through the city's stockyards and grain silos before moving to East Coast destination.
