Dwarf

Dwarves are one of the eight known sentient races that inhabit Aedes. They live in large cities in the Ashultum Mountains. A very isolated race, they trade only with select outsiders.

Naming Traditions

Dwarves have a single given name, and adult dwarves have an appended epithet as well.

When looking to name a dwarven character, look to Sumerian names for inspiration!

Average Technological Level

Dwarves are renowned for the quality of their metalwork. As of Dominion, they were the sole source of iron weapons and armor; Patria only had access to bronze.
Their knowledge of magic also seems beyond that of other races, save maybe for the gnomes. They possessed the knowledge necessary to seal the Modican Breach, and were able to work a ritual that made caryatid volition transmissible.

History

At one time, there was some form of dwarven settlement where Modica was later built. The dwarves who lived there closed the Modican Breach, and returned again to do so in 1 AL after the gnomes reopened it.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Dwarves are very insular. They only trade with the Ashulti, humans that live close to the Ashultum Mountains and have earned their trust.
There is a dwarven embassy in Caryatis; ambassadors are friendly with the caryatids, but distant with the other inhabitants of the city.
