Item Tiers

Items in Aedeva are divided into tiers based on their relative value. Although the typical value in gold pieces is given, it is simply there to give an idea of the value level. Far more important is the flavorful description. Gold value varies from culture to culture far more than an object's rarity.

Grade 1: Items

Most objects fall under the Items tier. They are the typical items of the typical people. Some are more luxurious than others, but most people have easy access to most of the items in this tier.

0 Everyday

"Oh yeah, I've got one of those."
Typical Cost: Free - 50gp
Typical Crafting DC: 10
Example: broom, shovel, spoon.

1 Common

"Gelun's market usually has those in stock."
Typical Cost: 50gp - 100gp
Typical Crafting DC: 12
Example: leather straps, nice clothing, horseshoes.

2 Quality

"Gotta do some shopin' around, but you can find 'em if you know where to look."
Typical Cost: 100gp - 500gp
Typical Crafting DC: 14
Example: saddle, heavy armor, wagon.

3 Luxurious

"Got this custom made by a smith over in Mesthan."
Typical Cost: 500gp - 1000gp
Typical Crafting DC: 16
Example: exotic weapons, signet ring, fancy silk clothes.

Grade 2: Treasures

The property of the rich and adventurous, Treasures are far rarer than Items, and are often somewhat magical. Many people dream of finding items in this tier, and some save up for years to buy a single Treasure to pass down their family line.

4 Masterwork

"I can't help you there. You'll need to go to the Dasthenian Stonecarvers for somethin' like that."
Typical Cost: 1000gp - 5000gp
Typical Crafting DC: 20
Example: masterwork weapons, marble sculptures, paintings, plate armor

5 Rare

"Oh, I haven't seen one of those in years. How'd you get your hands on it?"
Typical Cost: 5,000gp - 10,000gp
Typical Crafting DC: 23
Example: an ironwood flute, higher denominations of Ord or Mírë.

6 Prized

"This has been passed down in my family for generations. It first belonged to my great, great, great, great. . ."
Typical Cost: 10,000gp - 50,000gp
Typical Crafting DC: 26
Example: jedi holocrons, a musket from the American Civil War.

Grade 3: Relics

Unique, incredible objects, Relics are the stuff of legends. They are almost always magical in some way, and are usually kept under careful protection. Most people go their whole lives without ever seeing an Artifact. And those that do usually spend most of their life searching for one.

7 Exotic

"It is a relic from the ancient Ilchist people, likely one of the last of its kind."
Typical Cost: 50,000gp - 100,000gp
Typical Crafting DC: 30
Example: a soldier from the terracotta army, shard blades, lightsabers.

8 Treasured

"There are only three of these in all of Aedeva, and each has the worth of a small kingdom. Don't touch."
Typical Cost: 100,000gp - 500-000gp
Typical Crafting DC: 35
Example: honor blades, 9 rings for the humans.

9 One of a Kind

"All my life I thought it simply a myth. Finally, here it is, right before my eyes and I can hardly believe its reality."
Typical Cost: 500,000gp - Priceless
Typical Crafting DC: 40
Example: the one ring, Gáe Bulg, excalibur.

Grade 4: Artifacts

Objects that are nearly unheard of within the realms of mortals, to see an Artifact is to see a legend. Creating an Artifact is beyond mortal power or comprehension. Such things only come to exist as the results of direct divine action (usually multiple divinities working in concert), the results of an event that defines an era, or other, similarly momentus circumstances.
Examples: Odin's other eye; Chains made from the breath of a fish, the sound of a cat's footsteps, the beard of a woman, the spittle of a bird, and the roots of a mountain.
